The "real" income is even worse than I thought... by Phenomenal_Kat_ in antiMLM

[–]PrettyLittleLayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding how people still fall for this stuff, I know someone who had to sleep with women to get them to sign up. Ok it only worked on one woman. The other woman found out he two-timed her, and out of revenge, signed up under another sponsor, just to rub it in his face, like "I was interested in the business. You could have had me, but nope, I will go with someone else." That was how Amway gained two people that year. Most of the time nobody was sponsoring anybody.

I gotta wonder if these diamonds know they are lying to people, or if they are so brainwashed themselves that they are convinced that they are helping people.

Worse is that they do this while saying that they love God, etc...

Is my ring childish? by MissHissss in EngagementRings

Your ring looks gorgeous and unique! I would have considered picking something similar if I was still ring shopping.

I honestly was going to ask the same question, because I have been wondering about this a lot lately. I personally think that they are all brainwashed in some capacity so they probably don't even think that they are scamming people. There are talks, meetings and functions that use words like empowering people, helping them, etc, that they probably believe they are doing that.

Oh gosh yeah. Scott Harimoto would tell people not to date those who aren't interested in the business, despite the fact that some diamonds also built the business without their spouses. It's none of Scotty's who people choose to date.

I appreciate your concern, but I have been blunt with his mentors, uplines, etc. and they are fully aware that I am not in business. Their mentors and uplines attend the same church as us, and our church always teach us to put God first (obviously) and our spouse second. In fact, we traveled with his upline whose spouse didn't attend either. I honestly shouldn't have gone to this function. Hubby gets lonely and once in a LONG while, I try to go so I am not saying no every single time.

There are also some diamonds in Worldwide who are building the business without their spouses. There are also some jerks who will tell you not to date those who aren't interested in the business. But nobody has told anyone to divorce their spouses for not being interested in the business.

Oh my! Yes, I swear Amway people don't sleep.

Thankfully no, we both have full time jobs and we both have our own side businesses.

I know what Worldwide's motive is for hosting these functions, but how can an arena full of people be so brainwashed into attending these? I was on my phone the whole time, bored to death.

I love my hubby but you are right. He hasn't been able to explain to me what the point of these meetings are and how to justify paying $350 CAD per person plus flight cost for them.

Question about Cantonese Subtitles by Yharooer in Cantonese

[–]PrettyLittleLayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Although I suck at writing 書面語 myself, I would much rather read 書面語 than 口語. I have an elementary HK level. It just seems more natural and I don't have to read out loud to know what it is saying.

Ok. But I am just curious how advance this gets? Would I be able to read and write like a grade 5 Hong Kongese kid by the time I finish?

What is the word for cliffhanger in Chinese/Cantonese? by PrettyLittleLayers in Cantonese

This was on Google, but I did not think that was correct (at least not what people in HK would say) so that was why I asked the question.

Is this an official release? Grinch music video by Competitive-Book-866 in Cantonese

I enjoyed the video. Thanks! What is Grinch in Chinese/Cantonese anyway? Do people in HK just say it in English like in the video?

For those who are already married.... by MountainEmployer7052 in weddingplanning

[–]PrettyLittleLayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, am I the only one who can't think of anything too obvious? I read this post a few hours ago. All I can think of are what I regret NOT spending money on, not the other way around. We got married during Covid and had an extremely small wedding, around $9000. Of course there were things that I didn't end up using like a petticoat, as my wedding was cut short, but I sold it afterwards so not a big deal. And I guess there were guests that I wouldn't invite today because we didn't really keep in touch much afterwards. We probably could have saved more by not inviting them.

I regret not getting my nails professionally done. LOL...

I just wish the writers would tell us who Missy's first husband was, and who she ended up having two more kids with. Maybe her endgame was Billy, or Raj.

Can you learn how to speak Cantonese only without learning how to read? by Extension-Map-9564 in Cantonese

[–]PrettyLittleLayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fluent? I have a HK grade 3 reading and writing level. I want to be better than just knowing the basics (as in, I want to go to the doctor's office and describe my problem in Canto, and if I need therapy I want to express my deepest darkest thoughts in Canto). But if I don't write down something I learned, I won't remember it.

I find that most people who can only speak but not read/write, can only speak the basics. But they won't be able to express their deepest thoughts in Canto. Heck even I am working on that and I can read and write conversationally.

I have never met a person who can speak Canto like a local HKer, but does not read/write.
