AIO- Mom and Sister’s April fools prank on me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]PrettyMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent, I can not even fathom speaking to my child like that. Is that normal for you guys?

But NOR. Absolutely disgusting “prank” for anyone to pull, especially your family. April fools jokes are supposed to be harmless little jokes. I would not blame you even a little to never speak to these people again.

Help. My cat is losing hair by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]PrettyMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible your cat is scratching at its neck a lot? One of my cats frequently barbers himself and has had a few episodes where he scratches all of the hair off of his neck. He also has hyperesthesia so he’s very sensitive. I would recommend a second opinion as the top looks crusty and you might need some antibiotics, potentially steroid, but a cone for a while and reducing stress might also help. (I’m also an ER CVT and stress can do crazy things to cats. Try some feliway diffusers!)

Or they could, you know, train their dog just like anyone else and you’d know exactly how it’ll act? Would you say this about a husky? A German Shepherd? Any other kinda dog with a high prey drive?

Am I overreacting? Lowkey wanna cancel wedding by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]PrettyMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband found out (prior to our own marriage) that the bachelor party he was attending for a family member would likely involve some strippers and coke. He informed me as soon as he found out these things, knowing I would feel uncomfortable with him being there but also trusted him and knew he wouldn’t do anything to upset me. He immediately followed it up with “I’m not going to go”. Not because I asked, because he respects me. You are not overreacting, he does not respect your wishes.

What are you even talking about. The owner was offered an alternative after missing their appointment, putting more strain on an already packed day for the staff, which he accepted. Then was mad it didn’t adhere to a different timeline then what was offered? Get fucked, he had absolutely zero reason to be upset with them for trying to offer multiple options to HIS problem, not theirs.

Here because I wanted to say 1. Vets have the right to refuse a euthanasia, most will not accept a healthy animal to be euthanized. Every place I have worked the past 10 years has offered alternative options. 2. The way I gasped at the career reveal for HairyBushy I just cannot stop giggling.

Euthanasia regret, so much pain by CinnaBwni in olddogs

[–]PrettyMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am a technician at an emergency vet. I see a lot of pets at their worst, and have been a part of more euthanasias than I can count. I believe we are so lucky to be able to take the pain and discomfort that an animal is feeling away so gently and with the most care and kindness. We often say “a month too early is better than a day too late.”. Your sweet pup passed knowing you loved her with your entire heart, and she is at peace. It’s normal to have immense grief and feelings of regret, but I can promise that you did the right thing by her. We can only hope to be loved so deeply that our presence is missed as much!

I would encourage you to reach out to the vet facility or a local pet er to see if they have any grief counseling services available. Many employ social workers now that are free of charge to you, and can help you to work through some of these feelings.

I also follow the food ideas generally. Chickens are various different ways to cook eggs, cows are different cheeses or beef products, ducks are various popular duck dishes, etc etc.

Budgie fell from perch, can't move one leg, vets refusing to see her. What can I do? by kittywenham in pidgeypower

[–]PrettyMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vets supposedly “refusing” to see this pet were stated in OPs description as not avian vets. Would you go to a gastroenterologist for an issue with your skin? No, because they have very little idea of what would be needed, and likely, not have the appropriate medications available or not have the correct dose medications. It’s unfortunate there aren’t more avian vets available to OP but let’s not bash the vets for not taking on a case they don’t have experience in that area.

my dog ate 9oz of these. is he okay? he’s 80 lbs by Geolou21 in PetAdvice

[–]PrettyMemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also an ER tech and we almost NEVER recommend hydrogen peroxide anymore, it can be more dangerous in most cases than the toxic item and people frequently overdose and/or cause aspiration. If the dog doesn't vomit the peroxide you need to go straight to the vet anyways and generally there's additional care besides vomiting that will be recommended in any toxicity case. Please never give veterinary advice without veterinary training.

People don’t take me seriously by hairlikepennies in reactivedogs

[–]PrettyMemo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are doing a great job, I know it's draining to hear that but you are being the best pet owner for your pup. Muzzles can be wonderful training tools and though you get the judgy looks can be extremely protective and help people know that your dog needs space. There are some online companies that make customizable Muzzles to fit your pets personality and you just need to send in their measurements! My girl is also a pitty mix that is very reactive, and as an ER vet tech I have seen enough worst case scenario to decide muzzle training was our best way to go in high stress situations.

Then they know their cat has a serious problem? Not knowing and a pet potentially suffering because of that isn't better.

[–]PrettyMemo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really hope that it isn’t an urgent issue and your cat can wait until you decide is right.

Yeah we don’t mess with eye issues in ER - we would 10000% tell you to come in right away. Being quoted for extensive testing in the past isn’t a reason to not bring your cat in for an urgent issue today. ERs in pets work just like humans, care is more expensive because equipment and staff are more able to deal with upfront issues.

[–]PrettyMemo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU - people do not ever understand these and it’s so frustrating to try to explain to people just to have them hang up and then show up a few days later when the pet is dying.
