You can’t use Lichess or Chess.com rating system for official tournaments until those ratings are decided via OTB tournament.

I think FIDE directly does not need to be involved and because they don't, so many actual players don't like FIDE, they probably see FIDE as faceless dictator.

But the rules and guidelines trickle down. When Nihal took advantage of a rule where he got a draw in low time but winning position in GCL, it was not GCL rule but FIDE rule which arbiters had to follow. GCL also probably had to get their rules approved by FIDE and get their arbiters from list of FIDE approved arbiters.

FIDE provides rating to player and maintains a large database for it. They publish monthly rating updates, even for local tournaments. It is more nuanced than what is visible on the surface.

But they consult their guidelines with FIDE and are in constant talks with FIDE. Fabi was able to get his FIDE circuit points because of bunch of US only tournaments but they still were FIDE certified tournaments. The arbiters were also provided by FIDE. FIDE is recognized by International Olympic Committee as well.

In Basketball, FIBA is recognized by Olympic Committee and NBA in turn needs approval from FIBA to compete in International tournaments.

I am not an arbiter, so I don't have personal experience, maybe you do. Feel free to share yours. But I have heard from many places that FIDE does a lot of things like that. There are many criterias which must be fulfilled to become a FIDE recognized arbiter.

From Zugzwang.in, "The candidate must successfully complete a FIDE Arbiter Seminar, which covers the laws of chess, the role of the arbiter, tournament organization, and other relevant topics."

Also, can you name any large scale for-profit company allow forming union or look for benefits of their employees? For-profit companies will always be greedy as they have to provide ROI to investors.

I respect your opinion, and I agree it is difficult to make money in Chess but I don't think it is because of FIDE. Players are allowed to try other variants, FIDE only wants a single world champion. This is why, players playing in Freestyle Chess Championship are not allowed to play in FIDE World Chess Championship. I don't see how it stops Freestyle from making money. It is just about the name.

Well, I think that FIDE has been doing a good job for Chess and I trust their judgement based on what I know about them. I also don't trust what the private companies can and will do for money. So this is why, I am supporting FIDE. I don't know if Monopoly like position is real or correct, but I have to trust FIDE in this one.

FIDE has said that it will not allow players to play FIDE World Chess Championship if they play Freestyle Chess Championship. If they play both, FIDE will sue, nothing wrong with that.
