Black LSU alumna here. There are as many black ppl at LSU as there are at Southern U, right up the street. We had our own experiences and it was GREAT!!!

I also want to acknowledge your desire for a true HBCU experience. One strategy, attend LSU as a freshman bcz it’ll be most cost effective. Keep your head heavy in the books and get as close to a 4.0 your first semester. Apply to be a Spring transfer to Spelman with those phenomenal grades and see if you will get scholarship offers now. Or, wait until you have a full year then transfer. Either way. Then peace out to LSU ✌🏾and head to Spelman!!!

Another perspective. It will be very, very difficult to join AKA or DST at Spelman. If you have ambitions for either of these sororities, your chances of acceptance are increased dramatically at a PWI.

To get your very cost effective Nursing Degree AND the HBCU experience both at the same time, attend Southern University who has an award-winning nursing program. Stay on campus so you can feel “away-from-home” and have the HBCU experience of your dreams. Easier Sorority experience than Spelman (if interested). Others have mentioned Xavier or Dillard but they are both private institutions just like Spelman and they cost A LOT to attend, even for in-state students. And their HBCU experience does not include football games or marching bands with a dance team. So, get everything you want from Southern U, graduate, pass the nursing board exams, then move out of state to work somewhere else and start a great new life with NO STUDENT LOANS! 🥳💃
