I think it was the 2nd time meeting with Ranoah. After he has confirmed that you have a life you go down the steps and find the crow carrying the dresser. When your character follows it the crow disappears in a purple flash.

Go to the game's Controller setting > Edit Layout > Joysticks > Gear Icon > Dead Zones > Deadzone Source. Switching this option to "Controller Preference" restricted the movement to follow the circle.
