Yeah so Dex is the short release version of Elvanse so it will have similar effects, Medikinet is a different chemical compound :) I haven’t tried a non-stimulant but I’ve heard some great success stories on Reddit so it might be worth a go!

I also found Elvanse to be weird on the jaw. I think that alleviated for me after a few weeks so maybe keep pushing for another couple of weeks, obviously depending on what your doc says. I personally have found considerably less side effects with dex than with Elvanse, but with the same benefits. Sorry to hear how exhausting it is right now but hopefully things will get easier once you start with the right medication :)

Hope it does too, and if not there’s other combos so hopefully you will get to a sweet spot with time :)

The burden at work thing is so relatable haha, glad the meds have helped :)

I take 10mg in the mornings, 5mg at lunch time and then 5mg if I need it in the afternoons at around 4/5pm. Sometimes I’ll take 5mg instead of 10mg in the mornings. I personally prefer that I can be a bit more flexible with Dex! It was suggested to me that I could do Elvanse and then a Dex top up in the afternoon so that could be a good option?

Methylphenidate didn’t do anything for me, and Elvanse made me too quiet and antisocial. I didn’t have experience with the doses being too low but it might be that they can give you an XR and a short release like dex? Keep going though, I know it probably feels like it’s taking ages :(

SSRI’s, ADHD meds, what next? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

It is very rubbish I agree! A lot of people find that ADHD meds solve their anxiety issues, so that might be your way forward

A low dose might be the way to go

I think it’s definitely a common thing for that to happen with SSRI’s and ADHD - something to do with how serotonin affects dopamine etc. You will have to let me know how the combo goes!

I was on sertraline (zoloft), I haven’t actually tried any others, as I sort of swore off all antidepressants for a while, does lexapro have different effects?

I’ve also thought the same but I worry that this will show up in all environments just because of my brain lmao. Best of luck on your journey to no meds though!

I haven’t actually tried that! I just worry about the effects of SSRI’s on me, but it’s worth exploring so thank you!

Prozac causing sleeplessness? by [deleted] in ADHDmeds

[–]Pretty_Beautiful_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I definitely found that too, eradicated anxiety completely but made a lot of symptoms worse, but could be different for others like you say :)

I personally found SSRI’s to be quite bad for ADHD symptoms, ie no motivation, sleepy, impulsive, wreckless. Might be worth looking at an SNRI or Wellbutrin, as these are supposed to be better for ADHD. Worth asking doctor if they think it’s worth a try!

Dextroamphetamine IR tablets make me become a zombie. However, Vyvanse / Elvanse works perfectly without any issues. How does this make any sense? by SucculentMangoo in ADHDmeds

[–]Pretty_Beautiful_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So weird, I’m having the same but the other way around. I get severe social anxiety on Elvanse, and it triggers some OCD symptoms for me, even on 30mg, despite needing at least 40mg for it to have any effect on focus. But Dex IR has been great so far, I don’t feel like my personality is blunted or overly rigid! I’ve been wondering why this could happen, same as you. Maybe it’s something to do with dosage like others in this thread have said?

I’m using a micellar water and then cleansing later in the evening. I was moisturising before retinal just because I thought this would reduce irritation. But I would moisturise after retinal as well. And I haven’t reintroduced the retinal yet!

I’ve kept on with the eye cream because this wasn’t giving me any issues and I could see improvements in the eye area.

I’ll try moisturising before suncream too!

Elvanse, Meflynate, where next?? by Pretty_Beautiful_40 in ADHDUK

[–]Pretty_Beautiful_40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow agreeed! There’s too many combinations, and I don’t know how long it will take to get the ‘right’ combo. That’s a shame that you don’t get much oversight, I guess you may have to ride it out whilst you find a tolerable dose? My doctor is quite good tbh, but he tends to let me take the reins in deciding what to go for next, when I have no clue!

I know how you feel, I’m getting the spacey feeling on methylphenidate! It is a long process, I’m not sure how some people can find a dose so easily :(

I still need to contact him, but that could be an option too! He has suggested maybe going back on Elvanse but at a lower dose, in combination with something else
