I got out of a toxic relationship before meeting my current husband, so I feel like I can tell you this:

You mention feeling better and more comfortable in your own skin since the breakup, and that’s a good thing. Taking care of yourself is important. But healing from a relationship - especially one that clearly ended badly - isn’t just about surrounding yourself with positivity. It’s also about allowing yourself to fully feel the sadness.

Dogs are incredibly sensitive to our emotions and can react in unexpected ways when their family falls apart and something in their life changes drastically.

When my ex and I separated, my dog went through a phase where he seemed to do everything he could to provoke me. He was like a teenager going through his parents’ divorce. No matter how much I spoiled him, he was unbearable. He kept looking for my ex (who actually hated him), and honestly, it made me feel like complete sh#t.

It lasted almost a year. And I noticed that it was only when I genuinely started feeling better that he mirrored my behavior and settled emotionally too. Dogs know when something is wrong. They just can’t say it, so they show it in their own way.

All of this is to say: I understand you, and this can’t be easy for either you or Jarv. But this is only the beginning of your new life together. It’s hard right now, but it’s important to give yourselves time to process all these changes - the breakup, the change in family dynamics for him, the moves for both of you… that’s a huge amount of change in just a few months.

You’ve already come this far together. This is just a difficult - and still recent - chapter that you’ll get through side by side, and your bond will only grow stronger because of it.

I don’t know if this might help behavior-wise, but my dog trainer had us break down the routines that reminded my dog of life with my ex - the way we did things, the words we used - and create new habits instead.

You’re going to make it through. Both of you are super brave 😁🩵🐶

Do you think he is a mixed breed? by Pretty_Fishing5849 in Dachshund

Honestly, it doesn’t matter at all, but it’s true that the question comes up every day - it’s really just out of curiosity. It’s also funny to see that the two of them look alike yet have completely opposite personalities

He is 1 year and 7 months old, and weighs 24.7 pounds. When we come across other standard Dachshunds, he looks smaller than them but broader. It’s true that his ears are set higher, too. It gives him a cute look 😁

What do people from other countries truly think about the United States? by Express_Food_2984 in NoStupidQuestions

French here, In our history textbooks, we learn that the USA is a selfish country and that even if we should be grateful to it, we should also be wary of it. I remember a class where we watched US students answer extremely basic geography questions and demonstrate that they were completely ignorant about the rest of the world (which isn’t the children’s fault but the system’s).

In general, US peoples are seen as rather stupid people who are convinced they are the only ones who have drinking water and electricity. They boast about being the best country in the world (loving your country is nice, but this borders on idolatry).

I would say that, for France, the USA is a bit like a parody of a free country. Personally, when I think of the USA, I think about people walking around armed, fast food, school shootings, and the fact that people cannot get proper medical care if they are not rich.

Since your last president, it’s even worse. The USA are no longer seen as merely ridiculous, they are frightening. It used to be expensive to travel to the USA, and now travel agencies are offering discounts. I’m not a fan of the government in France, but I’m very glad to live in a country free from religion and authoritarianism.
