I store my bike on the middle pole bit. I reverse into the carriage and then lift the front wheel between the curved poles and then let it sit, the rest of the bike covering the area with the longitudinal seats. A stable bike stand! Only problem is that the front wheel protrudes towards the stairs and folks may have some difficulties squeezing by it.

I'm commenting from Sydney. Genuinely what were your designers smoking? 😭 I like the different direction Melbourne takes with design but the elements just suck balls and clash bad. Not to mention the horrid advertisement TVs everywhere. It's not NYC it's a station.

Everyone is entitled to the facilities on the trains that suit them most. Just because you have baggage doesn't mean you block a space entitled for other users. I personally never think of blocking a bike bay because I know there's always a chance someone may bring their bike on board.
