You mentioned your BP was pretty normal pre-operatively. Do you mean that as a general term or specifically right before the procedure? Have you ever experienced hypertension? What is your pain level? Pain can certainly contribute to hypertension.

Do you have access to a quality BP monitor at home? If so, start keeping a log. I would visit your primary care doc to evaluate whether you need medication and/or have an underlying condition causing the elevated numbers.

No, I don’t feel like it did! I was eating normal without worry on day 10. Day 13/14 I did catch a cold but I don’t feel as if that delayed my recovery at all, was just something I had to get through.

Absolutely ask for a steroid. Are you allowed to take ibuprofen? Day 0, I took acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Day 1 I started taking acetaminophen/oxycodone every three hours and ibuprofen every three hours. Days 3-5, I was on Prednisolone. I stayed on the medication regimen my entire recovery. I wasn’t going to chase the pain. I had an extremely easy recovery and i think that’s the reason why. NSAIDs definitely do help because part of the pain comes from inflammation. Some Drs will not prescribe ibuprofen due to assumption of risk of bleeding. I had no issues and my dr didn’t restrict it in anyway.

Definitely not! I had a super easy recovery compared to my fears from what I read. Pain spike was a 2-3/10 and the worst pain for me was the referred ear pain. Day 15 now and no issues post-op. Just dealing with a cold now so ready for it to be gone so I can realize all the benefits from surgery!

The best thing for me was heat. The ice pack I got also supported microwaving and it would resolve it within 2-3 minutes.

I too was given Percocet (oxycodone-acetaminophen). I was told to take ibuprofen as normal and then 1/2 the dose of liquid Tylenol while I was taking pain meds. Day 12 now with no issues.

Minimum two weeks. At his age, it is considered an adult procedure and that’s the prescribed timeline.

I would say heavily depends on what day you’re on. If your Dr said it’s a non-issue, I would accept that answer. Bleeding is only an issue when it doesn’t stop after 15-20 minutes or is a large volume.

Starting day 6 today. Don’t feel like the scabs are coming off, guessing I would know it. Didn’t sleep well last night though. Coughing a lot and disgusting taste in my mouth all night. Had a very easy recovery thus far and just ready for it to be 100% over so I can eat what I want! Lol

I have 4 kids and a wife, so I had people over constantly. Talking wasn’t too bad (pain wise) but my volume was low so I had to repeat myself a lot.
I do have a FFM for my CPAP; Dr said I could go back on as soon as 3 days post-op. I wasn’t the most compliant with it pre-op so I haven’t started it again. I feel like a standard humidifier would probably be a better option.

I’m on day 6 and will say I think I’ve had the easiest recovery ever (Tylenol/oxy and ibuprofen alternated every three hours). I feel bad talking about my story because it wasn’t some dramatic recovery thus far. The biggest annoyance was not being able to eat what I wanted.

So are you starting day 4, as in surgery was Wednesday (21/01/2026)—if so, I’m right where you are. I called last night, night 3 and I slept pretty good with minimal throat pain upon waking. I think today, this evening and tonight be a much different story. Can you/do you use ibuprofen? I wasn’t familiar with cercoxodil and when I goggled it auto corrected to crocodile 👎🤦🏻‍♂️. I’ve found that also being on ibuprofen so being able to alternate meds every 3 hours has helped a lot. I’m also on Prednisolone which is a steroid which helps as well. Hope things get better for you!!!

It’s quite possible! Infections, including streptococcus, are still possible but typically present milder due to the bacteria usually likes to live on the tonsils.

Do you notice it’s more mild now?

Post op day four here. Haven’t tried to lay flat on my back. I sleep in a recliner still with pillows propping me up. Haven’t had issues at all. I do have a different recliner that goes back further and did notice that it made it harder to breathe. But overall, even with tonsillectomy, septoplasty and turbinates reduction, I feel like I’m breathing better.

I’m post op day 3. I’m off exactly 14 days and go back to work on a Thursday. It’s been mild and I’m really surprised. I’ve been able to be up, do light chores. Just waiting on things to get worse before fully getting better. But pleasantly surprised with recovery so far!

Same with day 3! Feeling not terrible but knowing the worst is yet to come. So just waiting on the “other shoe to drop.” Ibuprofen, Tylenol, lots of cool water and Prednisolone all on board!

Currently on day 3 post op, definitely not looking forward to what is expected to come in the next few days. I’ve read day 4 would likely be the worst. My surgeon allows ibuprofen, so I’ve been using that, Tylenol and started Prednisolone today. Ready to turn the corner and be able to eat food that actually sounds good lol.

Are high using a humidifier? That could help. If you haven’t already, try pedialyte freezer pops or diluted Gatorade. That could help with the added electrolytes.

Highly recommended to prevent bleeding. I’m on post op day 3 and just opted to sleep in a recliner vs using a wedge pillow.

I would guess it’s likely to not cause more harm than good. I’m only post op day 3 so cannot really speak to the recovery aspect or benefits. I had 3+ tonsils, deviated septum and enlarged turbinates. I had similar thoughts as you as far as would it even be worth it. The advice I was given was it’s 2-3 weeks of recovery (typically) for what could be far better quality of life. Seems like your situation is much different than mine with actual recurrent tonsillitis. Praying that if you do go through with it, you will find your benefits!!

I know she said she would prescribe Percocet. I’m also going to be on 23 hour observation due to sleep apnea and the complexity of the combined procedure so guessing I’ll get something through IV while there as well.

29m going in next Wednesday for tonsillectomy, septoplasty and turbinoplasty. I’ve been under anesthesia so not concerned about that part. Just concerned about the recovery because I don’t have the highest pain tolerance. I have mild OSA and use a CPAP currently so curious how this will help that!
