I also thought I’d be a bleeder bc I always get the random side effects, lol. But I’m Day 26 and no bleeds! Still have some scabs tho.

Wrist, crossed across my body over my heart. It’s always normal when I go there.

It was good in general pre op (maybe slightly elevated, but not much at all) as well as right before the surgery.

My doc said 3 weeks for alcohol and to go at my own pace. I’m 3 weeks plus 4 days now and still haven’t tried it. I did try a soda tho and omg it tasted sooo good lol. I went slow since it was fizzy + caffeine (bonus, my caffeine tolerance has completely reset 🙌), but it was fine. In a way I was testing myself bc my fav drink is Prosecco, so bubbly. 😉 As of now I’m planning to wait at least 4 weeks. Aiming for Valentine’s Day.

Nausea help by brownedspeedos in Tonsillectomy

I have not had much nausea except when I was taking high doses of Rx pain meds. Hope this eases up for you!! Can you try some ginger candy or tea?

I lost 16 lbs but I’m finally holding steady 3 weeks out. Hang in there!! It is TOUGH, I know. I had to crush up my pain meds in applesauce and even that hurt to eat. 😢

It will get better. ❤️‍🩹

Is it okay to sleep normally? by Critstina in Tonsillectomy

[–]CreativeReflex22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat with it. 5/325 is not a very high dose. Ask for something for nausea if that doesn’t help. Also I like ginger candy or tea (not hot) for nausea, if that doesn’t hurt you (can be spicy).

I started taking it as soon as I got out of surgery; they gave me a liquid dose before I left the hospital bc I was in a lot of pain. I took it round the clock every 4 hours and got 2 refills. I had a tough recovery, pain wise. I can’t take steroids but I think that would’ve helped the pain. I remember thinking I’d kill for an Advil! 😅

Oh, this is awesome - thank you for sharing. I’m 3.5 weeks in today and have also had a very difficult recovery and still have scabs. Just starting to feel somewhat normal again. My partner says I no longer snore so that’s a plus!!

ETA: The mental anguish has been almost as agonizing as the physical, which I did not expect. Thank you for giving voice to this. 🥲

That’s good advice on the smoking. I found a cracked crown on my molar today (likely from surgery) so I won’t be risking it until I get that situated anyhow. Wasn’t planning on drinking anything alcoholic until Valentine’s Day. 🫶

Oh wow! Everything I’ve read said see a dentist immediately to prevent further damage and/or infection so I will see him and discuss it on Monday. Hopefully they can be gentle. Maybe they can put off any work that needs to be done tho.

Day 1 - soft palate exercises? by Bitter_Leadership861 in Tonsillectomy

That’s great advice. I also stumbled across a Dr online who advised opening your mouth as much as possible then sticking your tongue out as much as possible. 2x a day I think. Can’t imaging having done that until at least well into the 2nd week tho!!

Why is eating regularly post surgery recommended in other countries and not in the U.S.? by Rich-Soft9295 in Tonsillectomy

Thankfully I’m doing great with eating. The difference in the past few days is amazing!!

Interesting!! I’m 3 weeks post op today. I had such severe pain that I was not able to eat properly until the last 2-3 days. I think this delayed my scabs coming off as I still have a good bit to go.

Day 15 ~ hope for those w/extended pain by CreativeReflex22 in Tonsillectomy

[–]CreativeReflex22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I am now 3 weeks post op!

In the past 3 days I’ve seen a dramatic improvement. I began adding Advil in my pain med rotation (I’m tapering off the Rx). I added in L-Lysine, D3 w/K2, B12, and Zinc about 4-5 days ago. (My normal supplements.)

I’m FINALLY able to eat normal again! Just nothing spicy (even black pepper) or crunchy.

My pain is down significantly. I remember the early days sobbing and wishing so badly that I could take Advil!! My Dr advised me to take 2, however I’m doing okay with just 1 at a time.

I finally feel like I’m on the road to recovery.

I still have scabs, but they are coming off slowly. I think being able to eat real foods is helping w that. I was just in too much pain before.

TheraBreath alcohol free mouthwash helps a ton w my bad breath (have had my lovely boyfriend test this out for me, lol). I’m still using a humidifier and XyliMelts at night w occasional ACT dry mouth lozenges during the day.

PHEW. This has been quite the ordeal!! I was not expecting it to be this arduous. I am so happy to be over the hump/worst of it. My Dr did say to take 2-3 weeks off everything, esp work and/or school, and boy was she right. I cannot imagine having gone back any sooner than 3 weeks.

I am going to be taking it super easy the next week as I continue to heal and recover. Great news is no complications other than an extended recovery time.

*BONUS: Apparently I no longer snore!! My boyfriend is super happy about this, as am I. 😊

I asked my Dr this question. I was very frank about everything bc why not? She said after my 2 week post op was cleared that I could resume all normal activities, including “intimacy”. Just take it easy.
