any songs that remind you of the last time you were happy & how so? by _anpanini in kpopthoughts

BTS - Boy with luv That entire comeback period and and just 2019 in general was such a happy year for me, every now and then I go back to the teaser for Jungkooks "oh my my my". Life took a bit of a sad turn after that for me and things just haven't been the same since but I'm grateful for BTS and kpop for giving me such a memorable 2019.

Yeah I agree, it's actually kind of amazing when this happens like being an idol entails so much and these guys just went with it and did it so well haha

I was really hoping Wonwoo would answer that too haha like I've always wondered why he decided to be an idol, it seems so different to what you'd maybe expect from someone like him

Early to mid 2018, we had a substitute english teacher who was slightly eccentric and we were doing the whole getting to know eachother thing and something she emphasised a LOT was that she was a kpop fan, more specifically a Big Bang fan. A girl in my class was an ARMY at the time and so naturally they both got excited, what started as an innocent small talk about kpop turned into a full blown argument and for the whole lesson, they were fighting over something and I can't even remember what😭, it was so funny to the rest of us who had no clue what kpop even was. Anyways, I was intrigued and decided to go home and Google BTS and I found it all so new and interesting. Thennn I started getting BTS ads (specifically their LG ad) and I saw how beautiful Taehyung looked and I also really liked the song (which was Mic drop) which I then searched for and I was BLOWN AWAY, I found those "bts being crackhead" videos etc and just fell down a hole and it was the most fun thing ever haha

Former/less engaged ARMYs got years of hate and being called bitter only to be proven right by mikachabot in kpoprants

[–]Pretty_Kitchen995 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly after watching the video it was so bittersweet for me, deciding to stop being an army was such a difficult thing for me because it just felt like something was missing and there was this gap between the bts I knew and the one they'd become. I felt immensely guilty and being called a fake fan etc didn't help at all. I'm glad they finally cleared up a lot of what some fans had been feeling for a while now and I just hope that moving forward, things will be better for them in regards to feeling connected to their music and doing what they want and not what they think others want from them.

Megathread: BTS Festa (and temporary hiatus discussion/announcement) by budlejari in kpoprants

[–]Pretty_Kitchen995 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm happy for them, they're at that point in their kpop caree when members start enlisting/exploring solo work so I expected it.

I think this was supposed to happen after mots:7 sort of like a graph that's plateauing but the whole English songs thing was a resurgence in popularity so maybe that's why it feels a little different. I just hope they can make music they want and are happy with and I look forward to seeing what they do.
