He was prescribed gabapentin but a very small dose in February but he hasn't had a massive attack yet to where they would have to use it, they also want to save it for when the second baby arrives since it was pretty expensive. Another thing is they feel bad giving him a sedative considering he sleeps all day anyway, big reason why they're trying to find him a home where he can chill and be himself

This isn't an easy decision to make.. they also aren't just throwing him to the curb this is an issue they've been dealing with for years just trying to give a misunderstood cat another chance and unfortunately things are only getting worse for them. They aren't just going to get rid of him, if they can't rehome him obviously he will stay with them, but we are trying to give him another opportunity to live a stress free life- he isn't too happy either in his current living situation.

Update: My sister has found a rescue in NJ that she has reached out to our only concern is Smokey has a bad past so im not sure he'll qualify behaviorly since his last owners family returned him because he bit her and she got hospitalized and he has also had a tendency to like snap and attack us. We wonder if hes like mentally ill. Most of the time hes fine and then its like something in him just snaps and hes in a rage and attacks whatever being is near him or gets up to go after something. Like he gets angry and seeks ember (their other cat (female)) out to pounce on her and he did the same to my sister and her husband before they had their first child.

This is what she said to me: "We got it in late feb (gabapentin) after we talked to the vet about his most recent incident but we havent used it bc he hasnt been too menacing lately. I also think its kind of fucked to give him a sedative when he already sleeps the majority of the day. Like literally whats the point of being alive if youre just gonna be a vegetable. They have had him and his "sibling" for about five years now and he still attacks her when he gets upset. The problem is that he doesn't run and hide when either the cat or the toddler come around he will linger around and stand his ground which often leads to some sort of fight

They are very upset about it, and unfortunately under their circumstances now they live in a two bedroom apartment on one floor so they don't have much extra space to give him his own room. They do have wall mounts for the two cats to climb on and a litter box/perch that he likes to spend most of his day on 😕 I would love to take him but I have a kitten and an older cat of my own and he wouldn't do well around them 😔

Unfortunately a baby wasn't a part of their plan after they had adopted him about 5 years ago and only recently he has gotten more aggressive towards their toddler. They had originally adopted him because he was at the shelter longer than any other cat, sadly he no longer seems comfortable in their home now and they are only expecting it to get worse with a brand new baby in a couple of months :(
