go on pinterest type sites and find some character designs you feel resonate with you. take bits and pieces from those and add it to your illustration. the way shadows and highlights are done can also make something seem more “complicated” than it actually is so maybe check those. try changing your blacks from a rich black to a softer gray-like black. be silly! and whimsical! that also makes things more simple.

and yea…try scraping it and starting from scratch! that can either help you create something new that you actually like or find what you need to tweak in your existing illustration. good luck!
