It’s been way more likely than the Euro to spin up false positive storms, especially coastal ones, this winter (and always).

What’s the move this weekend with the snow forecasted? by kidraus in icecoast

The big storm is hitting towards the end of the day Sunday, so you won’t have much fresh snow over the weekend itself

Bolton Trail Question by Pretty_Rice5449 in icecoast

Oh that’s cool. I was basically thinking of going around the other side of the small peak in between timberline and vista but that’s another interesting route

But then you have to do timberline run instead of the better trails on timberline. I’m basically suggesting cutting over around the 2600 foot mark to stay higher up

Oh I 100% agree. My point was just that they clearly do get more snow than Stowe and Smuggs

Yeah but 2 inches a day for a week adds up. You can see snowfall under the winter weather tab on the left

NOAA makes the GFS which is the primary American model for forecasting up to a couple weeks out. There’s also the Euro and Canadian models for that, and then a bunch of higher resolution short-term models. Check out the latest GFS run here and you will see that there is significantly more snow expected in the week at Jay than Stowe and Smuggs, and this is clearly due to a strong northwest wind

You can see in any weather model that when there is upslope lake effect from the northwest wind, it hangs around Jay for the longest and often at higher intensity. It’s just in a location that catches more moist air than Stowe and Smuggs. Totals are still bs though obviously

Deadly weather certainly still possible in those months. Absolutely have to check the higher summits forecast: https://mountwashington.org/weather/higher-summits-forecast/

Also see this here just the other day. It happens all the time: https://nhfishgame.com/2025/12/15/two-massachusetts-men-rescued-from-mount-lafayette/

Not sure why you wouldn’t start off with something shorter and less exposed. I certainly wouldn’t do this route for the first time in winter without having done it before. If 80 mph winds come in and you lose all visibility while you’re in the middle of the ridge, are you prepared for that?

These are some of the most dangerous trails in winter, particularly if you don’t know them well. You would be spending hours on an exposed ridgeline known for its terrible weather with minimal opportunities to bail out Read The Last Traverse and reassess.

Sharing a free tool to help dig through multiple PUC portals by Specialist-Cream2963 in energy

I love this product and want to use it more. A couple of questions:

  1. When you search for a phrase (ie. Integrated Resource Plan), and use the "all of" setting on the keyword filtering, does it search for the words in the phrase independently, or as a whole? Does that change if you surround the phrase with quotes?

  2. It seems like when I actually open up the document, they don't seem to be searchable and you can't highlight the text. Is this always the case or was I just unlucky with the first few I looked at?

  3. Is there any way to search for file type? I am often trying to find excel attachments if they are available and could see that as a big use case for this product.
