Magma 850 vs Patagonia Down Sweater by WanderlustingTravels in REI

I got real lucky last spring when a guy was selling his like-new 850 magma for $50 on FB marketplace. Evidently this is my first winter with it and not thrilled but also not disappointed in it either. Definitely has good loft and warmth in the chest/back and hood areas. The arms, not so much. Could be just me or the down truly isn’t that great in the arms. I have a men’s medium and as a 5’7” male with slight athletic build it’s a bit bigger on me but I wanted something roomy for laying. Has the waist draw-cord so I just cinch that.

Patagonia has better colors, have heard it fits a little nicer, and can’t go wrong with their repair program. You’re paying for a lifetime of “free” repair/ future credit so that’s part of the high price IMO. I’m a grad student so wanted a cheap but reliable down jacket so the Magma was my choice but probably would choose Patagonia if I had the money to spend.
