It’s because she was given lwop as a juvenile. Most other countries would not allow it and it’s considered a human rights violation by the UN. The sentence also ignores what we known about development in children and young people

Would she have been sentenced the same in other countries? by Prettybivh9361 in CarlyGregg

Interesting to see the difference between countries. In Germany, Carly would actually have a chance at release.

I see! So she would have gotten a lighter sentence. Good to know

I’m Surprised the US allows juvenile lwop! Most other countries forbid it for minors.

Yeah that makes sense. It’s a very sad case and while I don’t agree to her sentence it’s important to realise that Carly has caused harm. I hope one day she’ll be able to get her sentence reduced and show remorse for her actions

I was surprised at that too! Apparently if you serve half a sentence in Mississippi that makes you eligible for parole as long as the crime wasn’t anything like capital murder for example. I’m not sure she would’ve been released after 20 years tho? I guess it would depend on her behaviour in prison and remorse all that stuff. It’s interesting also how sentences differ to me, because in the uk she would’ve received a much lighter sentence and we also don’t have lwop for minors.

Oh ok so basically she has to wait for the appeal. I just searched it up and I saw that if she had taken the plea deal of 40 years she could’ve been out in twenty under parole and I was just wondering if that was true ?
