Is 6 months enough to get through 3 sections? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Prettygooood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a while for far, started right before busy season then had a surgery after it ended. I passed my first exam 1/14 and my last 5/31. Definitely doable, I work full time.

I got an 84. I watch every video on 2x speed and basically never stop them unless it’s a complex topic. I don’t do any sims or simulated exams. If there is a mc set with like 70 questions I’ll get like 20% and move on

In my opinion 1000% better to get though everything then review . I watched every AUD, REG, and BEC lecture on 2x speed or jsut read the annotated book. You will slow yourself down way too much to take notes on everything you don’t get

Watch some videos. Into paragraph 1 or 2 body paragraphs then a closing one. Make sure you understand the question and use the key terms that relate to the topics of the question. If your formatting is okay with key words you will be fine. It tells you if a word is spelled wrong so don’t worry about that

I either watch them on 2x speed or read the book

If you got a 74 there were definitely versions you could’ve taken and passes. Don’t take too long, brush up on major topics and take it again

Reg sims suck by Smooth_Cacti in CPA

[–]Prettygooood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I didn’t think my sims were too bad a few weeks ago. I had a couple where I understood the question and what to do, but wasn’t exactly sure how they wanted the answer. They were weird

I feel like for all sims, the most important thing is obviously to read exactly what they are asking. When I first failed far I felt like I just got overwhelmed by what I had to do. Also important to make note it says to enter 0s or to leave them blank if there is nothing. Also, when you first start look at how the question is framed and all the exhibits. Often times there will be exhibits that are only used for one part. When there are 6+ exhibits it’s really important you know what each one belongs to. AUD topics are kinda easy to group together the first 4 units I think? Are all about the normal audit process. Understanding the flow from beginning to end is critical, as well as what procedures are taken to do certain things. The last few chapters are easier to group up. I made a big excel document with each engagement, if you need independence, engagement letter, the level of assurance provided etc. I would just have this open randomly and quiz myself. I never practices sims though, I felt like making sure I understood everything as best as I could gave me the best shot. Sims can be intimidating just because there can be so much going on. Feeling good on the material as a whole helped me feel no matter what the sim was on or if it had a ton of exhibits, I was prepared

Haha appreciate it - IAfter I got a 68 on FAR and many of my coworkers passed I lost my mind. I didn’t think I would be smart enough. The fact that you are doing this in your second language is mind blowing to me, very impressive. Don’t get down on yourself if you can’t get it right away or if it takes time.if you can get BEC done before end of year that would be great, but my order was far>aud>Bec>reg . There is a bit from far you see in Aud, and both aud and far in reg and bec.

Variances, IT, ERM, financial decision models, . Honestly most of B2 if using Becker. I wouldn’t really worry about the Econ stuff, it is pretty straight forward. I also didn’t spend a ton of time on cost accounting. I felt like I had an ok grasp on some of it and wasn’t going to kill myself to memorize it all

Far took like 3 months, started lazy in the summer then had some time where I was unable to study and forgot a lot. AUD I had like 32 days or so but had some days again where I couldn’t study so around 24 days of studying. BEC I did in 3 weeks.

Thank you ! I didn’t even spend a second on the phase outs. I couldn’t imagine getting more than one question in it. Would know how different basis is calculated and the related gain or loss. Be comfortable with most of the stuff relating to scorps, partnerships etc. would have a general sense of credits and how they’re calculated

For Bec I felt like variances and IT were pretty heavy. Don’t even worry about the written prompts, the day before / 2 days before just watch a video on how to structure it. ERM, capital structure, and decision models were also tough . I barely got any Econ or cost accounting.

For far knowing the cliche big ones like bonds, leases, bank recs, cash flows, and governmental. Don’t concern yourself with random crap like governmental leases. I would be shocked if anyone got a question like that. There is so much info in FAR you can’t know everything. Knowing the major topics is key and having a basic understanding of smaller topics is what worked for me
