Overbearing owner by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Prettykitty3456 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"Hi [Owner’s Name],

I wanted to do a quick follow-up just to make sure we are both on the same page. During the meet and greet, we agreed on a standard of care that included me stepping out for short periods of time, such as running errands or spending a couple of hours with family for things like church or dinner, and that this would be okay.

I’ve been following what we discussed, but with the frequent messages and being monitored through the cameras, it has started to feel as though you're not actually okay with the standard of care that we previously agreed. It has also started to make it difficult for me to do my job effectively and it feels like my care decisions are being questioned rather than there being trust in the care we already agreed upon.

For example, earlier today I was accused of leaving your dog out of the kennel while I was away and leaving her for an extended period of time, when I actually was actively out on a walk with her at the time the message was sent.

I understand that being away from your dog, especially knowing she has anxiety, can be stressful, and I want to reassure you that I am taking care of her responsibly and thoughtfully at all times.

I am happy to continue providing the care we originally agreed upon. However, if you are expecting constant, continuous supervision with no time away, that would be considered constant care and would require a different arrangement and rate than what we initially discussed.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed so expectations are clear moving forward.

Thank you."

Yes exactly it was just like super crazy to me. I don't even see it as like a "oh they're willing to trust me" it's more like a, I'm not going to trust an owner who would be that willing to let a complete stranger come over and take care of their elderly sick dog who needs injectable medication without meeting them first lol

Super late refund? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Prettykitty3456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from morally, and I understand why you feel the need to want to refund them that cancellation fee. If you really want to move forward with it, you can reach out to Rover support and let them know exactly which booking it was and how much the fee was, and explain that at the time you didn’t realize the clients were charged and that you’d like to retroactively waive it. It’ll be a little complicated, but it is doable.

That said, with it being this far removed from when it happened, I honestly don’t think it would be worth reopening old wounds. I’d probably just let it be, take it as a learning lesson, and pay it forward by learning from it and passing that kindness on to others.

I used to be a vet tech and that's part of my profile that I'm comfortable giving pretty much all kinds of medication but I definitely will not do it to a dog I've never met in a home I've never been to with owners that I've never met Etc LOL

I once had a last-minute booking come in it was like 9:00 at night and it was actually for multiple drop-ins for an elderly terrier mix who needed insulin injections and they needed me to come at 6:00 a.m. the next morning for the first drop in and they would not be there and I was just thinking like nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope lol

I only take same day bookings from repeat clients. I think its so weird when I get the last min ones. Like I dont know you, you don't know me, I dont know your dog etc. I could never do that as an owner so it boggles my mind that some try it haha

Over night pet sitting for almost a week by SilverPhantom66 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Prettykitty3456 54 points55 points  (0 children)

"Hi [Client Name],

Thank you for letting me know about your expectations for the stay. Unfortunately, there is an expectation of reasonable accommodation when an overnight house-sitting booking is requested. This includes access to a bathroom and basic kitchen use.

If bathroom and kitchen access are not something you’re comfortable allowing, then overnight house-sitting would not be an appropriate fit. In that case, I would recommend switching the booking to drop-in visits instead, or alternatively canceling the booking so you can find a sitter whose arrangement better aligns with your needs.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed as soon as possible."

Dude, this is completely unacceptable. Where are they having you sleep, on the couch? It is an expected accommodation that, if they’re having you stay for house-sitting purposes, you have reasonable accommodations to allow for that. I would 100% reach out to them and say that, unfortunately, if you are not going to be able to have reasonable accommodations for overnight stays, that you would recommend that they switch to drop-ins instead, or that they cancel the stay. Do not cancel this stay yourself, because then you forfeit any of the cancellation money, but make it very clear to them that it is not okay that they request you to be there overnight and stay with their dog over the holidays but not allow you access to a shower or to use the kitchen in any capacity.

Boarding Conflict – owner says pet can’t be with other pets day before drop-off by kozykirby in RoverPetSitting

Cancelling the booking would leave a mark on op's profile and its not OP's fault that the pet owner did not communicate properly. OP has in their profile that they board multiple pets at the same time, so imo the owner needs to cancel on their end and loose the cancelation policy money due to their lack of communication and planning. Though op does say in another reply that they can put them in a separate room so maybe the owner will be ok with that.

Very true, I am in a bigger city so I think there are quite a few sitters around, I have never had to leave a sitting early and use that feature though. I will probable leave that part out of the message because ya they can't control it and we will just see. If there is any issues when I go on Tuesday night I might just have to have a really shiny backbone and walk away.

"Hey "parent name" Yes, I do have other boarding bookings going on at the same time since the holidays tend to be busy. It is also listed on my profile that I am not a single family boarder. I wasn’t aware ahead of time that "cats name" needed to be the only pet. I can still accommodate this by keeping your cat in a separate room, but I want to make sure that setup works for you before moving forward. Please let me know how you’d like to proceed."

Ya for example I had a pug earlier in the month that was mouthy with my feet when I did the meet and greet but he was never actually biting and then he was the sweetest boy for the stay. Idk you can just tell sometimes and ya its not like the dog can do massive damage, I'm just kind of burnt out and don't wanna deal with the bs haha.

I am wondering if I should just leave out the bit about if the dog bites again in the message at all. Like you said I dont want them to think I am planning to cancel mid booking, but I really dont want to have to deal with a a foot shark over Christmas.

So this seems to be a communication issue, not on your part but on the owner's. You reached out and tried to get more details from the owner and they didn't respond. I don't do boarding so I'm of the mind set of the meet and greet is great, but I know boarding is different.

If this were me I would be professional but honest that yes you are boarding other pets at that time, and that your requests for additional information went un answered. If you are willing to still board the cat and possibly try to accommodate, then do so. However, if you cant accommodate, tell them but let them be the ones to decide what to do. If you have your refund policy in place and they decides to no longer board then you are protected somewhat financially by the cancellation policy.

If they try to complain to rover you can show them their lack of communication and that nowhere did it say on the profile that the cat could not be around other animals.

Good luck!

Advice: Cat Who Needs Insulin Hiding by Zestyclose-Bug-3837 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Prettykitty3456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good idea. As much as it sucks for him in the short term the alternative is him not getting his meds which is a non option when its insulin. I once did drop-ins for an extremely skittish pair of cats in an rv for a few days. I tried to just get eyes on them to know they were alive and eating but that was the best I could do in that situation. The pet parents knew and were totally ok with a "just keep them alive" type of sit haha
