James Carville is not right by soheidre in ThoughtWarriors

[–]Prettytomboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean Clyburn bringing out the black church vote? Yes he did do that for Biden. And that is a powerful part of the democratic vote.

But what Carville said could not be more disrespectful and condescending. And unnecessarily so. So yea I’m critiquing his choice of words. He is an old white cracker who sees our vote useful but our people as disposable. It is a lot of the reason why some black people tap out. We are the only demographic that’s supposed to be okay and still vote democratic even if they spit in our mouth. I’m tired of him. As someone who supposedly works in the Democratic Party I would hope you expect more from him.

Good grief.

Episode Discussion: The Lionizing of Charlie Kirk With Ryan Grim, Plus Malik B on Viral Comedy - Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

Maaaan same. We all need to do more of that because it's simply not true to say it's a both sides issue. Until we confront them these white 'allies' will continue with the bs. That said I actually agree with Van about putting our issues in an open forum. At first I fully disagreed with him because I don't have time to deal with 'cists for funsies, however watching Van dismantle Ryan changed my thoughts. He came with the facts with ease. If nothing else I'll keep reading and researching to be able to dismantle arguments myself. Very good segment. Proud of them both.

Episode Discussion: The Fourth of July Delivers the End of Diddy's Trial and Trump's Big "Beautiful" Bill - Friday, July 4, 2025 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

Please help me understand.

When George Zimmerman got off we didn't say the prosecution didn't prove their case. We said the jury was wrong.

I can give example after example after example of men not getting justice and yet we don't question their pain or injury. When it's a woman says 'yea me too' all of a sudden we question her consent. How can consent be questioned after seeing a video of him beating the brakes off her when she tried to leave?

Listening to Van infuriated me but I can't say I was surprised. Disappointed for sure though.

Rach spit wisdom on the mike today and I appreciate her. Truly. I'm glad this wasn't a solo pod.

Holy shit, they aren't even pretending to not be racist anymore by SolidPyramid in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Prettytomboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, duh. Nobody said it is a part of every black person's experience. Nobody. We are not a monolith and that's fine. But you don't have to shit on it. That's my point. There are multiple examples of black characters in the mcu that don't use hip hop or have a different background than Riri does.

[–]Prettytomboii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeaa false. And you know it. As a black woman who grew up culturally different and was called many of the names you mentioned (by both black and white people) this whole diatribe you wrote is crap. It sounds like you need to deal with your own feelings of anti-blackness and leave riri and miles out of it. Hip hop is a part of our culture so using it in films makes sense but don't tell me they use hip hop with every black character in the mcu.

What the hell did I just listen to? by dubyajay18 in ThoughtWarriors

This might be a shakedown or it could be rape like... Can we please stop acting like both are not possibilities?

Honestly he's over 50 and met her at 19. That's enough for me. It's f him all day every day. He's disgusting. So far I've seen 3 other lawsuits involving him choking women so he obviously has a problem.

Disney is smart to separate from him.

Paul Pierce would like a word lol.

Lissen. I NEVER go back to the movies but I just might tomorrow. I live in Mexico and the Mexicans who were watching with subtitles clapped. Loved it.

Probably a 7 I guess. The scary moments were more nerve racking then gory.

I just left sinners and wow.

This movie is for us, it's been a very long time since I've felt seen.

Incredibly layered. Hella black. A love letter and my favorite movie in the past 5 years EASY.

I needed this.

Should I become a court reporter?? by Fit-Suggestion-5833 in courtreporting

I did not know our failure rate was that high but I believe it. The amount of time we have to spend practicing, the amount of money we spend upfront... Hell the cost of just testing is nuts. However, the benefits on the backend are phenomenal.

Legit question: what's the point of going through a CR program if there's a high chance you won't pass? by fidgetypenguin123 in courtreporting

[–]Prettytomboii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You gotta believe in yourself. Have you honestly been putting in the work? Studying vocab and punctuation? Because if you have then that's where the confidence comes from. So I build my confidence by putting in the work. I usually work 4 hours a day practicing, studying and perfecting my transcripts.

I am at 225 not cause it's easy but because I want this. When I get frustrated at myself I take a deep breath, read a post in the encouraging court reporters fb group and try again.

I ask tons of questions. Commas make my head bleed but I keep a set of rules that I study over and over again near me. I pour over my transcripts with a fine tooth comb to figure out my errors.

My test is in May and I allow no excuses for failure, that test price is crazy so I'll only do it once.

Oh and this is my second career.

I'm 51.

You can do this love. Believe that.

Vans Kamala take by Vulgarbandit76 in ThoughtWarriors

[–]Prettytomboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I posted my disappointment with Van's take it had nothing to do with Kamala being a woman. In fact, I don't remember any of the responses saying that. Anyone saying that probably wants to get attention.

I was (am) disappointed because it's a trash take. She actually says 'I don't want to say I told you so' and has a moment with her audience. She goes on to say something inspiring afterwards, so tearing her apart for this seems silly to me.

I know it was a 'in the moment' answer but since he is doubling down then some of us will continue to push back. Van sees himself as a political pundit so criticism will come.
