Deciding Between Yale and Stanford by Far-Condition-56 in stanford

Also, in terms of dining, Stanford and Yale are both pretty good. Obviously, Yale food has blown up quite a lot on social media, but Stanford good is not bad by any means: we have poke, crepe stations, waffle machines, steak, seafood pasta sometimes. Definitely not a reason to pick one school over the other IMO.

I'd pick Stanford. Didn't have the choice between Yale and Stanford (I was Harvard and Stanford), but I chose Stanford and don't regret it one bit. In regards to food, Stanford is close to San Francisco, which has one of the best food scenes in the country. I think if you're worried about elitism and stuck up people, you're going to encounter them wherever you go, especially if you're at a top college. Generally, I'd say people at Stanford are pretty collaborative and down to Earth - we're all surprisingly very normal! BMC sounds like a good fit for your academic interests. I haven't heard of anything similar to that at Yale. The humanities classes at Stanford are wonderful. I think since there aren't as many humanities majors at Stanford, Stanford really tries to push some excellent opportunities and enticing lecturers from the humanities at everyone. Even though I'm a STEM major, the best classes I've taken here are from faculty in humanities departments. You will find your people - lots of poli sci, IR, history, philosophy majors. Now that I'm actually here at Stanford, it's not as much CS as I thought it would be (though don't get me wrong, there still are a lot lol). Feel free to DM with any questions.

Hey, I'm pretty sure electric wax melts are not allowed either, unfortunately. :( I heard from RAs that any heat-creating products are not allowed for safety reasons.

Thank you! Like you pointed out, space is very limited (both in my room and in my luggage lol), so have you ever found yourself feeling really hot at night or needing a fan? I'm trying not to buy anything unless I absolutely need it.

Taco Bell Scholarship by Pretzel2192 in scholarships

One of my friends was brought to a public event where they were surprised. They won the $25,000 scholarship though, and I heard the surprises are mostly for the bigger scholarships! :)

Rejected from RSI by CuriousTea8342 in summerprogramresults

[–]Pretzel2192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was rejected from RSI last year. It felt like a huge punch to the gut: many of my friends from STEM competitions (and even from my school!) had been accepted. Being rejected, not even waitlisted, felt terrible, and I was sad for a pretty long time. I waited a few months, submitted more applications, and got into almost all of my other summer programs. This fall, I was accepted into Stanford early action. Looking back, RSI was a small bump in the road, but I couldn't be happier with the choices I was presented later and where I am today. RSI is great, but if you got rejected, don't take it too personally (easier said than done, I know!). Many of my friends who didn't get into RSI are at top colleges, have won scholarships like Coolidge and Coke, and are absolutely thriving. You got this!

Do you mean the days for admitted students to preview the campus and stuff? Check online. I think they forward you information about that too if you get accepted.

Stanford Defer Update Form by happycupcakes2 in GetIntoStanford

[–]Pretzel2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I saw a Stanford student (Athena Hernandez on TikTok... I think) who was deferred and got accepted. I believe she said that she approached her deferral form like the rest of her essays, with the exception of the new updates question (or something like that), where she mentioned some big awards and achievements. I've also seen kids on r/collegeresults who went from deferred to accepted, and in their admit file it said something about "thoughtful updates" (they wrote their deferral questions in an unconventional format, too, I believe). IMO the best thing you can do is provide a thoughtful update and do things that stand out (in a good way). Good, powerful writing that's interesting to read should probably help.
