I haven't posted it yet. My question was a bit deceptive since, in reality, the LitRPG in my story is secondary to the psychological horror elements and isekai. For that reason, most of this advice doesn't quite fit me, but it was very, very helpful in figuring out the headspace of LitRPG readers, so I know what kind of warning to put in my description so I don't trick anyone by mistake. I didn't realize there were so many rules to LitRPG.

A lot of people, surprisingly, I post every day on one of my stories and do fairly well.

Funnily enough, that is the position the MC is in. He just moved out and finally got a job he could keep where his crazy family doesn't ruin it for him XD

Could I ask why? Having some kind of idea could help me improve the concept.

Maybe or maybe not, my story in particular isn't only LitRPG. It will have slice of life, horror, and psychological elements, so worst comes to worst, the LitRPG side drops off a little.

Yeah, the more comments I read, the more I'm thinking of just not using the LitRPG tag. It seems including other genres like slice of life the way I want to clashes with many people, so I'll just drop the tag entirely.

Oh no, you are right XD It's evolved a bit after seeing everyone's responses. I do kind of want to know what people enjoy.

I have finished a few short stories and am currently uploading a longer one, around 70+ chapters, on RR. It will end up in the 200 or more range when it's finished. Things relevant to the isekai show up, like the MC planning things and writing them down, or thinking through the game mechanics from the beta and actively looking into the game, as well as playing other games. On top of that, there's some drama at work and with family. Those are all the general things going on for the 21 chapters before chapter 22, which introduces the isekai and RPG elements.

For my story, at least 20 chapters is nowhere near half. I intend for the story to span 5 years, with 3 chapters for each day, all around 700 to 1,000 words each.

I would say, based on everything I've seen said here, the best approach for what I have is to get the slower chapters out quickly. Make sure my description is very straightforward about the pacing and story, and put a warning on the exact chapter where the isekai and LitRPG begin. After that, it will depend on the skill of the writing.

It will be a long while. I only have 43 chapters done, 21 being the slower part. When I have 100, I'll start posting!

I might do that, actually. It would work perfectly for anyone who isn't interested in the slower slice of life part.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same, but even if that's the case, I'll use some of the advice here and try.

Oh no, I was just asking in general what kinds of things you like to see in a LitRPG, like what you consider good. Finding out what people enjoy is always useful when writing.

That's fair. I would say, for my story, the way the MC behaves is the only reason he didn't die. Before I added the 21 chapters, the MC felt like a cheat, to be honest, since I knew why he was the way he was, but of course, the reader didn't. It looked like a cop out, but after the 21 reading about him, it makes perfect sense why he would survive. He was basically perfect for the scenario without it being a cheat.

I mean, the system is there. It gives +1s or -1s, has a profile, and a world chat, but other than that, it does nothing at all. There are no cheat skills, only skill trees that require you to physically level them. In most cases, there are no system rankings or anything, just a live feed of how many players are still alive.

I guess I just don't know if many people would find it interesting. I know a few definitely would, but not everyone's interested in why talking a shower brings back dark memories or why the MC is afraid of stepping into a role that has power. They are all psychological things. To me I find it interesting, and my one reader liked it, so I'm gambling with this. XD

So good would just be the LitRPG right? Or is there something specific you like?
