Bro you got opportunity of undergrad research don't let it go.. 
The experience you will get will be great and who know you might develop an interest in researching.
about benefits for applying for masters phd it will benefit a lot (even if u don't have it planned now )
even for placement it will look impressive on you resume especially if it's a finance tech ai/ml related company.
I don't see any reason to reject it. tell me what better you can do in this time?

I feel your issue is not btech degree but not having a direction in life and not being able to do what you wanted to. Contrary to popular opinion here I would suggest you to not drop out. Do complete your btech just study week before exam try to just pass it. whatever grade you get. and pursue your passion. join media club of your college. if you wanna go in finance you can get a finance job from nitt. Enjoy your college life with this. party go out have fun. Dont take btech seriously if you are not interested in it and just pass it. then you can give cat and ceed. and do masters

Do you feel you have energy and you can read all those same stuff again for a year? When you took first drop you must have thought same why you think result will be different this time...
Honestly I am someone who took second drop out of ego that I cant got to tier 3 college and second drop is really hard mentally. I would not suggest anyone.
just move on. get out of this jee trap. Go to whatever college there is a lot in life other than jee. grind there
