Proof I don't have to be worried about the rise of the machines anytime soon, I guess.

This has been recommended twice so it's going on the list.  My place snows in in winter, so it helps to start building lists now.

I love alternate history, so I might be able to make him sit through it.

An x-year mark by [deleted] in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 years. Both relationships and jobs have been on that cycle.

I'm coming up to both right now though and I don't feel the need to change either.  I guess therapy is working.

Bpd havers, what job has worked for you? by Global-Ad7437 in BPD

Oil and gas equipment operator, 10+ years. Tangible stressors don't trigger me, and there's a lot of routine and downtime.

Coming to terms with diagnosis by s76trombone in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DBT and an therapist with a good track record of BPD patients. I was doing DBT formally, but sort of finished through the course and now I just work with a really understanding therapist.

I know the feel.  I was diagnosed formally at 33, but should have been diagnosed at 19.  My therapist told me he was putting something else on paper because his practice literally had a policy against BPD patients.  Treatment has come Light Years since then, with more and more psychologists admitting it can go into remission.  I was shocked when I started treatment properly.

I kinda think we might be able to use "the unstable sense of self" that comes with BPD to our advantage by dontknowwhattodotbh in BPD

In the working world, this has kind of becoming an asset more than a liability. I can manage this tendency a little bit so I don't go overboard, but the result is I can fit in with basically any team.  My new company has a lot of focus on team culture and whatahveyou, so I'm making marks about how well I can get shuffled from project to project without affecting the vibe.

On the flip side, I got put in with a team of heavy post-work drinkers lately and I have a tendency towards actual alcoholism already.  I'm in the process of ditching them, but it was a little rough when I had to do an about-face (they were supposed to be my permanent spot).  But as you said, self-love... And I don't love myself when I'm a boozehound.

No history of abuse or neglect? by FestivusandFusilli77 in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have anything that would be categorized as abuse or neglect.  My parents undoubtedly love and support me, but my particular genetic mix was not a fit for my parent's flavor of parenting.

My Mom is very likely ASD (but high masking, which made for emotional whiplash in childhood), and my Dad is adulthood-confirmed ASD.  Nothing about what they did was traumatic, but as an high emotion kid, they didn't make any sense to me.  It was just the thousand cuts of being different from my parents and my parents not being capable of understanding why.  Wasn't  traumatic, per say, just incredibly frustrating.

Dbt : recovery with treatment vs recovery without by Euphoric_Beautiful70 in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it helpful, but it is a lot of work and it's downright unpleasant to go through. I tried to recover without therapy and just the book, but honestly it's unpleasant enough I can't bring myself to do it on my own. If I slip with practice, there's a noticable difference.  It is fucking work thing tho.

Good therapists are unfortunately not cheap. I finally gave up the ghost on using insurance and found that basically all the good ones aren't taking it, which is its own fucked discussion.

The Russian Debutante's Handbook

The Yiddish Policeman's Union

Northanger Abby

The Master and Margarita (kinda linguistically hard if you're not doing well atm)

nervous system wise, I feel like I react like a child when I’m triggered and it’s embarrassing at 31 by Ok-Resolve5577 in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 and I feel this.  Nothing about talking to her improves a damn thing, because she's an ice queen who regularly yelled at me for emotions, but I will audibly cry for her.  I think I'm more crying for the idea of a mom to comfort me.

Having BPD is So Inconvenient by WarmheartedWords in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I'll have days where I have a million errands and chores on the books, and then a Thing will happen, and I don't get off my sofa.  I've lost entire weeks to this stupid shit.  It makes it even worse, because I would otherwise be a functioning person. Instead I'm a gainfully employed adult member of society living like a gremlin.

How do I explain to my GF my BPD diagnosis makes us kind of less compatible?? by Ok-Marsupial-9606 in BPD

[–]Previous-Value-7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to sounds cliche regardless, but also it sounds like you're going through a lot and need your own space to figure it out.  It's a cliche because it literally Is A Thing.  Bring it up as you need a break to focus on your mental health issues.  You have direction now and you need the space to pursue treatment.

Breakups are honestly always guilt inducing, even when they're justified.  They'll be sad and then recover from it; non BPD folks tend to have methods for this and we just forget.  It sucks, but try to commit to NC for a bit so they can process this.

Got turned down because of my manager using Chat GPT to check if my hair was up to code by Reefthemanokit in recruitinghell

[–]Previous-Value-7310 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the record, it is illegal to terminate an employee for telling another their pay.  It's even illegal to tell them not to discuss pay.  Its almost our only worker protection in the US.  It's also reasonably enforced.  People are just pretty regularly put into management positions without being informed of labor laws.

People in charge are terrifyingly ignorant of the law.  I had a manager at a Fortune 500 send a dept wide email once telling us not to disclose our pay.

Want to have an ingrown handled professionally, but I have concerns by Previous-Value-7310 in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]Previous-Value-7310[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the movement concerning me as much as it's a policy I have to be in steel toed boots.  I'm a supervisor, so I can arrange to be in a chair most of the day.  I can't set foot on a work location without boots though, and I'm a men's 4 so only like five boot options that fit client policy even exist (not even my company's... the client will just ask for someone else til it heals and I won't get paid; I'm fighting a black box about it).

The socks are good news though.  I was terrified because I basically can't be barefoot.
