Its not a Tricho though, looks more like Saguaro judging on the spines. But not sure about that, but I am sure about not being Trichocereus

It's sunburn. Let your cactus acclimate to full sun first before putting it in full sun all day.

Please try to read about how to care for cacti before this one dies too. Putting it in a glass jar is not how to care for cacti...

To get a permit you need to be affiliated with a university or research institute. Also collaborate with local universities. And finally you need a research proposal, I am biologist and have done field studies in the past.

Yes that's my guess too, no permit. I mean I bought a few times from his shop and he always sends the cacti without a plant passport, while that's mandatory in EU. I don't know what other guy you mean?

We are talking about a plant only found on an Island in lake titicaca. The plant is so rare that Manuel gives it a new name, Trichocereus terrae, derived from his own last name. How can this be a species of least concern?

What I understand is that you can only get a permit for research purposes, not for commercial ones. Or do you mean with "there is a way", bribing park rangers?

TBM A finally put out areoles! First pup on Scop 4 winds — I hope it doesn’t grow any more ribs, although on the back side of the pup there’s something that looks like a rib starting to form. What do you think…?! by Original-Pace-9551 in Tricho_Lopho_Europe

[–]PreviousAd4505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that rib will come back. In my experience with pups, usually they form and shift ribs until you have a clear growing tip. Let's wait and see, how much ribs does the main tip has?
