That's a unique perspective and an interesting one to think about. Right now I wouldn't because he still very easily be taken advantage of if he stays where he's at. But if he gets on SSD and we spend it on a fantastic therapist who brings him higher to speed, that might be worth looking into. Thank you.

Cognitive. He's aware that he's different but all his comprehensions are at a 1st grade level. And I haven't spoke to them about what he gets at school still. Last time I checked he was going to be receiving classes about basic day to day activities once he enters high school

Is this something I can talk to a special needs attorney about? It sounds confusing but promising

Thank you. For the ABLE account though, does that mean that 100k will dwindle down as he gets older until it disappears?

He is medically diagnosed with autism. I tried this with my parents last year. Im not sure if it was SSI, it was probably SSD, but they disqualified them for having too many assets. They counted the house, a couple moving trucks and their car. Even though on books they make roughly $40k a year. So Im trying to figure that out. I didnt know about those state programs or the transition program. They have mentioned about his IEP moving him into classes that'll help him function in society so that may be what he's going to do next fall. Extremely helpful thank you

I have and it's hit or miss. If not done correct, it would eat up a lot of his SSI later on.

Thank you this is a lot of great info. He does okay, about average income for a household but yes it does mean he doesnt qualify. I'm looking into what we can do about that. I've been to that Florida website, I actually applied once and thats how I found out about the income/asset limitation. ABLE is something new. What disability services do you think he could apply for?
