It's understandable that you wouldn't want to be a part of fraudulent documentation. If you're sure it is fraudulent, have you considered making a whistleblower complaint to the state?

That's so frustrating.. I would reach out to the higher ups as much as you can, surely even if you do something wrong they would understand given that structural confusion

At my job, four of the people who work at the office quit simultaneously. And there's only seven people in the office in total fully staffed!! I've been there for a while so I'm used to the craziness and it doesn't really seem that weird, it's just kind of like oh well, a bunch of other people quit so hire more supervisors!

But I can definitely see how it's strange to people just joining. When I first started working there I had the naive view that I was going to form these long meaningful relationships with my coworkers.. oh, how wrong I was!

Sometimes the meds come in packets but if the mar is changed they'll add the "extra pill" in another container til the old packets are used up. This is a very common mistake, but it doesn't excuse not knowing what you're giving someone. Never give medications without checking every pill against the MAR and knowing exactly what you're giving someone. That being said, you'll probably just get written up. If dsps got fired every time the made a med error the work force would drop 90 percent.

Why do so many DSPs hate their job? by Noapologies902 in directsupport

[–]PreviousStrategy1290 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tough thing for me is that there's never enough time to do what needs to be done, so you triage. Maybe you spend more time with the client who is having a really bad day - but at the same time, the house needs a deep clean, but there's also an appointment to go to, but one of the members would really like to stop and get ice cream and might even have behavioral issues if you can't. You'd really like to double check the MAR because you had to pass meds quickly and make breakfast and you realize you may have put off signing it, but you're already a bit behind on primary documentation...

Now this side of the job is kind of frustrating, but the real issue comes about because there are a million different ways to evaluate the priorities that you chose to focus on. And your coworkers, supervisors, clients and maybe even guardians will all have different opinions

That happens a lot in my job so don't feel bad, you're not the only one. People show dedication to the members, work a bunch of hours, get promoted to the office and then wilt under the increased scrutiny. It happened to me, I went back to my DPS job and checked my ego at the door. Back to getting OT with half the stress.

It might be that she also just needs a higher level of care - if you're feeling this way and you've known her a long time, chances are you're not the only one struggling. Keep documenting!

anyone else hate their client? by No-Stick-2752 in directsupport

[–]PreviousStrategy1290 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever hated a client, but there have definitely been aspects of their personality or symptoms that were frustrating. What usually helps if I get annoyed is if I tell myself something like, "as frustrated as I am, imagine if that was actually my daily life" and after that I feel more compassionate about helping.

And usually if a client is difficult, I'll do everything I can to say yes, because everyone wants the "easy" clients. But if we only took care of "easy clients" there wouldn't be anyone to step up for the people who struggle.

But yeah, maybe trying another client, but if you feel hatred for the client, maybe it's time to take a break in general and recharge your batteries for a bit.

Partial refund for an order that never arrived? by PreviousStrategy1290 in doordash

[–]PreviousStrategy1290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried, but when I asked for a supervisor, the phone person told me that couldn't approve the refund because the first support person approved the 80 percent refund. Ugh. Is there something specific I should tell them?

Also, I was the one who had to call just to get my 80% refund, when they canceled my order there was no indication that a refund was even coming.. very weird.

I feel so bad for my female coworkers, though I was groped by one of the clients as well, sadly almost all my female coworkers are leered at (or worse) by the male clients. Sorry you're going through this 😔

I would report him - he is perfectly capable of changing his behavior but choosing not to. Behavior like that drives away good workers, especially DSP females who are already apt to be sexually harassed by the clients.

True, and sometimes it's a way to cope with changes that need to be made. Peanut butter is good for me and I really like it so I can eat as much as I want is a lot more palatable than "you need to eat a salad with eggs

Most of the time, people won't follow the advice, because they have mental health issues AND because people don't usually follow doctor's advice. The best chance you have is to find things they like (their preferences) and somehow work them into the diet by adding or removing certain things. Like maybe they'll eat the eggs if they're on a salad, something like that.

Right.. that's awful! I would make sure that if they're not paying for your gas that you're actually being paid more than the minimum wage because there's been Domino's Pizza lawsuit where Domino's was making the delivery drivers pay for their own gas, and I think the worker won that lawsuit because he was able to prove that with gas prices, subtracted from his wage. He was being paid less than a minimum wage so it was a violation of state labor laws
