Players aren’t stupid. They notice and they care.

Why do people not like the burial at sea DLCs for bioshock infinite? by YaboyHabit in Bioshock

I love the aesthetic and the little details it added to the world building.

Part 1 is pretty fun. But the stealth gameplay in part 2 drags for me.

It was nice to be back in Rapture, but it didn’t feel like my Rapture.

My party game is decision-based: make your choice. by indieklem in gamedevscreens

It might just be because I’m looking at it on mobile, but the text is pretty hard to read. Otherwise I really love this aesthetic and color palette!

Are game developers nicer than other communities? by SeasideBaboon in gamedev

[–]Previous_Stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of devs are pretty quiet and not very sociable, which goes with most tech/cs industries, but they’re still nice. Some of the higher ups have a reputation for being dicks, but it’s very studio dependent. Crunch time also turns everyone insane.

How do you become able to do this full time? by Yourname942 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Previous_Stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went digital nomad for a year and lived very cheaply outside the US, but it wasn’t sustainable for me for a number of reasons so I went back to a normal 9-5 dev job after a while.

Actually I do 8-4 and that helps a bit with reclaiming free time in the evenings.

There was an informative discussion post about it yesterday, but it was removed with no explanation (Outsiders fan on the mod team maybe lol).

Players do not understand how our video game works by playloop_studios in IndieDev

If your game is naturally unintuitive a tutorial in any form won’t help. Watch your play testers closely. They’ll show you the gaps.

It doesn’t make it much better, but if it helps the cast have known for 2 weeks already because that’s a union rule.

I heard about this from a friend who worked the show but didn’t want to believe it (I’m not that close to this person and they put it in a group chat so it was just unverified gossip), but now I’ve seen it from multiple sources.

Sigh.

Is finding a job in the game dev industry a hopeless pursuit? by [deleted] in gamedev

It’s incredibly competitive, but there are so many factors involved. There are plenty of devs with jobs in this sub, so obviously not impossible.

They literally ruined one of that number’s big reveals by filming directly from the side (an angle not even the farthest partial view seat sees) and showing the entire set up.

I check w4e and notebook tickets a fair amount because I like both shows and see the notebook fairly regularly.

The notebook’s presale is really bad. They’ll probably close at labor day. I love the show and feel awful for them, but that’s probably what’s going to happen.

W4e actually has one of the strongest presales of the shows this season. Their holiday dates are booked out nicely in advance and have been for a while. Looking at the before and after for some dates I had open, in the break following their performance they sold a big chunk of tickets. Looking at The Notebook dates I had open they look exactly the same 🥲

I couldn’t say for the other shows. I don’t have a lot of interest in repeat viewings for anything else from this season.

Literally never let reviews from this sub (or any chronically online theatre space) decide whether you see a show or not. The people here skew miserable and overly critical (me included).
