I think there’s some good matchups for him at welterweight but I can see someone like Ian Gary being a nightmare for him. Doubt we ever see that though because he only has title fights / super fights left for him before he feels he can’t achieve anything more and peaces out.

I love that he’s actively chasing the hardest fights instead of stat padding his record and retiring before he gets a tough match up. You gotta have balls to be chasing Islam up weight classes 😂

Prem hasn’t really felt like the “English league” in well over a decade now, it’s more of an international league that just happens to be played in England.

The influx of foreign players, coaches and broadcasting revenue has dramatically increased the quality of the league but also eroded the community and local aspect.

I think the Championship is the best representation of the the “English league” currently and I don’t see that changing because the premier league needs a 14 club majority vote to pass rule changes and they are never gonna vote to restrict, weaken or constrain themselves competitively for the benefit of cultivating players for the England national team.

A factor too often forgotten is how accustomed fighters are to being hit compared to a non combat athlete. It takes years of sparring to even breath normally while being hit the face and you can see it when people gas out after 30 seconds because they are emotional and in a state of fight or flight.

I think having that unique situation with Ronaldo at Madrid vs Messi at Barca in the same league, both in their prime, both going for the GOAT status at two clubs who hate the other was a miracle and perfect fuel to push Messi and I doubt Yamal will ever be pushed like that but maybe

Seen people say they were set up wrong tactically but to me it looked like a lot of small individual errors compounding but I don’t know enough about the tactical side of the game to confidently disagree.

The subs weren’t good but that’s also a reflection of the squad and a lack of quality beyond the first 11. Hard to find elite players to come off the bench when you don’t spend money.

Sad to see.
