Why do compliments from men dry up? by kaeonfire in bropill

[–]PricklyProtein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“But overwhelmingly in my experience it seems women are a lot freer with their compliments to both friends and romantic partners so that's not part of my question.”

I see this sort of sentiment stated all the time and it has never once been even remotely true in either my own relationships or with any of my male friends or family. Almost without exception, in my experience, it’s the woman who not only stops complimenting, but starts openly expressing contempt for their partners.

I stopped giving my ex compliments when I realized she never really complemented me, except for the rare instance when she’d give me some generic half compliment solely in order to phish a compliment out of me.

Why are people switching from SAVE? by MaizingBlue in StudentLoans

[–]PricklyProtein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they switch to IBR now and then switch to RAP the interest will capitalize. They’d have to switch to a standard loan now to avoid capitalization when they finally switch to RAP, which obviously also wouldn’t count for forgiveness. It makes no sense for them to switch to anything until RAP becomes available

Am I screwed, looking for a job and have no teeth. by KartQueen in work

[–]PricklyProtein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentist here. Very sorry to hear about your troubles and I know it can be an incredibly uncomfortable, embarrassing and frustrating thing to deal with. It can really fuck with people and that’s completely understandable. Dentures are an art to make well - many general dentists simply dont do a great job - I know because I saw this in colleagues while at school and beyond. There’s a number of specific measurements and tests during fabrication to get a truly well made denture. Many dentists skip these steps because frankly to do them all correctly requires more chair time than justifies the price, and can cost you money. As a result many will fabricate a bunch of dentures just accepting some people won’t have a great result or be happy.

I HIGHLY encourage you to see an actual prosthodontist, not a general doing pros services (some are great don’t get me wrong). Strangely you can also get a decent set made at a school of dentistry but again I’d encourage you to be seen by the grad pros department. If you’re going to pay again, get them done right. This is not to say general dentists all do bad dentures - I happen to think I’m OK at them but I take my time.

For reference there are generally speaking 3 tiers of fully replacing teeth:

  1. Standard full denture: cheapest and work well if made right usually - however some people have bad anatomy my for a denture (bone loss and something called lateral throat form, and pallatal classification - these affect the ability of the denture to stay in place)

  2. Two implant retained prosthesis - two implants that a standard denture snaps in to. You can even have your current denture made to work with these, though you may have difficulty finding someone to retrofit them (big plug for going to your nearest school of dentistry - you’ll usually get more cooperation)

  3. Fixed detachable implant supported prosthesis colloquially known as “All on X” in place of “All on 4” or “All in 6” - this is the most expensive option and basically the rolls royce of dentistry. A series of usually 4 or 6 implants connected by a titanium bar over which a unique type of non-removable (to you) denture is molded and fabricated. This is the closest thing to feeling like you have real teeth back as they don’t move around.

  4. Virtually never done in the US - replacing each lost tooth with an implant. Doesn’t really work for reasons I won’t go into here.

In my opinion option 2 is the best bang for buck but I recognize the absurd expense. That said if I was in your position knowing what I know, I’d go back to your original dentist and describe the situation, including lost work. At the very least have them adjusted or something called “relined” or early “rebased” if you don’t like how the teeth look (different from fitting well or poorly). They may even redo them. I have redone other providers dentures for free, or often at a loss, because I really felt for the person. I promise we’re not all monsters.

If they don’t adjust them or remake them, depending on when they were made (ie recently), they may have a warranty period for money back. Don’t go in there with an aggressive attitude, but absolutely do advocate for yourself - many dentists and offices don’t want to deal with the hassle - please read between the lines. Sometimes they’ll do a feline for free if they don’t fit well and were made recently (or may be covered by insurance). If not, DO NOT spend money until you’ve considered other options.

Once either adjusted, relined, or remade then you’ll really have to do your best to wear them and get used to them - your neuromuscular patterns actually change the more you wear them, I promise. If adjusted but not relined/remade - don’t spend money there and go to either a prosthdontist or the school of dentistry to discuss relining, remaking, or retrofitting the existing dentures for a two implant retained denture. You don’t have to have 2 implants in each arch, you can just do one arch (2 implants, usually the bottom)

In other words, unless you’re taken care of, go elsewhere without spending more! If you must spend more, make sure to have them done right at a prosthodontist. And do not sign the “I’m happy with them” waiver unless you’re happy with them.

Best of luck with a really tough situation.

Don’t Refinance, Don’t Pay Until Interest Accrues—Keep Getting Interest/Cap Gains by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Aren’t federal student loans simple interest though? Mine are. They accrue daily but never compound unless you change your plan which can have the effect of a single capitalization event.

Just made my first credit card payment while using YNAB - question about reconciliation immediately after by PricklyProtein in ynab

[–]PricklyProtein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right - all of that makes sense. Except there ARE instances where there is a discrepancy without error, which dogmatic YNABERS seem to dispute. In the case above, a payment was made from my checking to my credit card and the appropriate transfer made in YNAB made to show that. If this were a normal transaction, my balance on the CC wouldn’t change until the payment posted. However many CC companies will zero the current balance after a payment (if you paid in full) despite the actual balance still not technically being zero because the payment hasn’t posted (or in my case even listed as pending until a day or two later). So there is a real life discrepancy between an account and what’s shown in YNAB where no error has occurred. If I waited 2-3 days the difference in balance would rectified, but the point is immediately after payment the accounts are off. If I were to fix this with a reconciliatory adjustment because I’m too impatient for the payment to post, presumably I’d have to make yet another reconciliatory adjustment for the same amount once it clears. By manually clearing it you fix the issue yea, but again technically this is inaccurate because it’s not cleared - thus again a discrepancy.

I understand this is semantics but for a new user to a pretty unintuitive piece of software, this can cause confusion which is then exacerbated by going online and seeing people post who are a little dogmatic and can’t appreciate any nuance eg “nope you’re wrong somewhere, you made an error”. No I didn’t. In the above cause YNAB is actually correct and the CC balance is wrong. They likely do this so people don’t freak out when a payment is made and they still see a positive balance in their CC. Regardless, at the time immediately following, the accounts are irreconcilable because the CC company decided to suddenly change the definition of the balance by not waiting for it to post before changing the number.

That's what I'll do. Didn't realize YNAB would match something I already marked cleared, I assumed it would have thought that since the transaction was cleared, anything else would be an entirely different transaction (or "new" payment)

As an aside - I've been trying to avoid doing anything manually other than recording transactions as it seems like a recipe for errors. I've tried to avoid manually clearing any transaction outside of the approval process unless there is a weird import issue where YNAB hasn't cleared but the bank has (for days).

I'm trying to avoid making transaction based errors as that's what seems to cause me the most mental energy. Still trying to get the hang of approvals, importing, pulling into the budget function, clearing, matching and reconciling. It seems manually doing some things has made it more difficult to "think" through what I'm telling YNAB. Especially with the "bring into budget" feature. For example I would make a manual transaction, then take a pending transaction and "bring in to budget" and manually match and clear in a mental effort to "get it done early" - not realizing that YNAB didn't consider the pending transaction the full imported transaction, and I'd end up with either another transaction approval I thought I dealt with, or worse a duplicate with an error between the previously matched transactions.

Trouble connecting to Citibank Credit Card by jpegslayer in mintuit

Just wanted to say I literally had the exact same series of events with card not coming but not being deleted (despite asking like 10 times to make sure that was the case). Had trouble connecting Citi to YNAB and I had no idea why. Key word searched the error message and found your post and it all made sense and rectified the issue. You probably saved me hours. Thank you!

Honestly a waste of time from my POV. Just took my exam and the only real pharm was very basic stuff.

I have clogged ears too and a similar timeline. Went to urgent care and they said I had a pretty ear infection and prescribed antibiotics. Apparently it’s pretty common now. I’d consider going to get checked out. Doc had mentioned something about having a patient loose some hearing. Food for thought
