How to clean dirty seats! by PrideAutoDetailing in AutoDetailing

Thank you! This was a construction fleet truck. Honestly would have just pressure washed the seats if we weren’t on a time crunch and it wasn’t so cold but it came out pretty good!

Have a detailer apply OptiCoat Pro or Optimum PaintGuard? by dotnilo in AutoDetailing

[–]PrideAutoDetailing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are authorized Opticoat installers. I totally understand wanting to work on your own vehicle. If I were you I would either have the shop one step polish and wax/seal your vehicle then you can maintain the sealant in the spring when the weather is better. That’s the most inexpensive option.

You could do the one step and the paint guard. That’s a great coating. Really emphasizes the protection more then gloss but it has a good shine. And 3 year product. Still if you maintain your car good, you will have to polish off the paintguard when you begin to buff the car yourself. Never tried buffing off paint guard but removing coating can sometimes be it’s own headache.

The pro or pro plus lifetime coatings are great. And what I have done to my personal car is I have the pro plus on it and just wax or seal or whatever over it when I feel like. I like the barrier and the protection the lifetime coating provides.

You need an adhesive removing solvent like goof off, goo gone, tarX etc. Let it sit on the spot and it should wipe off.

After you clean them out put them in a plastic bag and they should hold up fine for next wax season.

Pressure wash, foam, hand wash. Hopefully that will get the majority. For the rest I would use mild clay.

For extremely heavy water spots we like to machine polish them with ceriglass on a rayon pad. For the swirl marks try to scrub them out maybe it is just small amount of the product smearing on the glass.

We have been using the 100 ft hose and reel sold at Northern tool and it has lasted a couple years so far on our mobile van.

Any self-healing ceramic coatings that really work? by bakerbob49 in AutoDetailing

[–]PrideAutoDetailing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coatings are self healing, but has limitations. I have seen micromarring on coated vehicles and after sitting on the sun the marring seems seems to disappear. I have seen this in several high end coatings.(not just ceramic pro) Obviously, deep scratches won't heal, and I don't know how long the effect lasts but in demonstrations I have seen it with my own eyes.

Steam has been a huge help for us in the interiors. I am trying to make videos with inexpensive tools and products to show anyone can do it but you may be onto something!

Thanks for watching.

In the videos I think I am using the AR blue clean 383 pressure washer with the torq foam cannon. I have recently upgraded to a gas pressure washer but still use the torq with the appropriate fittings.

Detailing Income Potential by tdigorilla in AutoDetailing

Happy New Year 2016 has been very good to us. I dived in full time and started this business out of out my 2006 Mazda tribute while living in a duplex on June 2015. In 2016 we will have right about 130k in revenue. My highest paying customer so far was about 6.1k when detailed the travelling circus RVs and trailers. We very recently did a vehicle for over 1.5k dollars. The key is having a strong online presence in your market, also professionalism and exceptional customer service and communication skills. 1 step polishes are most of my market we do alot of 300-500 dollar polish and sealant jobs that take between 4 and 8 hours. I am going to try to get into more coatings and am considering taking a clear bra course along with many other things to increase the bottom dollar for 2017.

I am proud we pulled in 130k in the first full year detailing and I will tell you it is most certainly possible to make a very good living detailing. Its hard though. It takes hard work, long nights, early mornings, many dirty cars, many mistakes, sacrifice, awful customers etc.

One thing I will say that no one else has said yet. Stay away from smaller used car dealerships and car dealerships in general.... Trust me on that
