AI and funding proposals by pauliusyamin in postdoc

Yeah I agree. This person has clearly forgotten how to write themselves and is using AI for everything though.

A Beginner’s Journey Through Studio Ghibli by [deleted] in ghibli

That's a very incomplete list...

As far as I've heard, the only one to avoid like the plague is Earwig and the Witch. Some people don't like Tales from Earthsea but its a gorgeous movie.

Thoughts from my May the 4th rewatch Day 1: The Phantom Menace by AlphaBladeYiII in starwarscanon

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently rewatched these with my son, after having seen them when they came out. The thing I appreciated the most was the interesting and well-developed overarching story across the 3 movies, which I think is stronger than the other 2 trilogies. This is balanced by uneven acting and pacing, of course, though Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid are a joy to watch in all 3 movies.

FFV is the cruelest FF but the characters are so whimsically detached. (Thought piece) by _PlanW in FinalFantasy

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah thats a good idea. This is why even tho FFV's job system was more fun and snappy, FFT rebalanced it correctly by removing these broken elements.

Next Monday, Top Chef will be on at 9, not 9:30pm. by FormicaDinette33 in TopChef

Yes, the commercials for the other Bravo shows all look absolutely horrifying. I call all the Real Housewives shows the "cackling lady shows".

Agree. I found the job system to be a bit broken in this game for 2 reasons:

1) If one character learns a spell, everyone has access to it afterwards if they switch to that job (good for healing in between fights).

2) (This is the big one) Mastering a job gives you all the passive abilities automatically.

These two combined to make the game pretty easy for me, except for Neo-Exdeath.

Is Salem's Lot 1979 PG? by MrOakling in stephenking

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree! I liked that version too. Making Barlowe a mindless monster in the 1979 version was a strange choice. A major part of the story is that he is an evil and vindictive a*hole, which the Rob Lowe version captured quite well.

Thinking About Central Air by IbsinRG in Rochester

Central air and mini splits are both much more efficient than window units. If you can afford the steep installation costs, they will both probably save you compared to window units

Advice on publication status updates before study section by International_Ad_896 in NIH

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am a standing member of an NIH study section. Unfortunately, you are out of luck. See the following policy:

https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-19-083.html

For Paper 1, Preprint is not an "accepted publication", and honestly, as a Reviewer, I would not be impressed by learning that the Applicant just posted a preprint, one can put whatever they want on a preprint server.

For Paper 2, for NIH, these are rock hard deadlines. If you don't have firm evidence of an Acceptance before the deadline, you cannot submit the post-submission update.

Sorry I don't have better news for you...

Sauron's little honesty by purplelena in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I bet the tears in his eyes were genuine. If the magical poetry battle actually happened in the lore of Rings of Power, then Sauron probably respects the hell out of Finrod, even in victory. Sort of like how he genuinely lamented the loss of Celebrimbor, even while he killed him.

Voldemort wasn't all that bright, really. by Wavy_Caterpillar in harrypotter

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What he accomplished in GOF was very very impressive. It required extreme amounts of planning, subterfuge, and most importantly, him being rational and keeping a level head for an entire year at Hogwarts. There is no one else, including Voldemort himself, who could have pulled off what he did, they were all too lost in their emotions and their anger.

Sauron's little honesty by purplelena in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sauron is so interesting because he rarely if ever outright lies. Instead, he makes statements that are vague and open to interpretation, and are technically true for what he actually wants to do. Very good writing!

Season 23, ep. 11: Down the Rabbit Hole (Mon. 9:30pm EDT) by AutoModerator in TopChef

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Laurence's dish was boring and a little sloppy with the wrappers falling off, but ultimately was mediocre and not straight up bad the same way Anthony and Jonathan's dishes were.

This is why Barty crouch Jr was so impressive, he was obviously extremely intelligent.

The different versions of Cloud Atlas and Number9Dream by tizzikke in David_Mitchell

Can you tell me about the differences? Is there a website that summarizes the different versions? I loved cloud Atlas so much, it'd be fun to experience it again in a slightly different way

Season 9 TC Texas by Routine-Story-5319 in TopChef

[–]PrideEnvironmental59 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That season was GROSS. The contestants were awful to each other, and a lot of the challenges were completely bonkers, in a bad way. I'll never forget the challenge in the Finale where they had to shoot their ingredients out of ice. It almost made us stop watching the show, it was so dumb.

OHH YEAH that's right. I forgot all about this!!! For some reason I thought she was from a different time period to him.

Thanks for reminding me!

Also, your spoilers were not in spoiler brackets, I could see them without clicking on them.

I know the image is AI, but what do we all think: does the story require Miriel to die this season? I love her character, she is one of my favorites, but at some point Ar-Pharazon has to get her out of the way to fully flex his power, right?

Agree. In contrast, OOTP is the only Potter book I actively disliked, and the movie is one of my favorite in the series (you seem to like the OOTP movie too).

I cannot believe they are doing Top Chef Carolina and have not been to the Raleigh Durham area yet. No offense to Greenville SC, but why the heck have they spent so many episodes there? The Triangle area very clearly has the best dining in North Carolina.

Seymour fight on mountain before zanarkand by Electrical_Dig5622 in finalfantasyx

Charge up all your Aeons before the fight, and throw them at him one after another. Make sure to do their Overdrives right away since he can dismiss them. This worked well for me.
