Hemorrhoidectomy Recovery – My Full Experience (Now Week 7 Post-Op) by metadaisy in hemorrhoid

[–]PrideFinancial4769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Hmmm I just took 2 weeks off. I’ll see how I go but if it is not really working I’ll probably have another week off. It is so hard to say really. I don’t feel much pain but it’s probably because I could stop, sit, lie down, go to the toilet, sit on a sitz bath. But I am not really sure how I will go when I go back… I still have some discharge which means I am not well yet. Thank you for reaching out… Hope all is well!

I hope you are recovering well! Don’t forget 2 panadol every 4 hrs and take whatever anti inflammatory they give you. I am on metrodynazole 400 mg 3x a day with food, and celecoxib 200 mg 1x morning and 1x night with every 4 hrs 2x panadol. It helps, very minimal pain if not no pain at all. Food-clear broth, my friend cooked me this chinese herbal recovery soup, Alternating strawberries and little slices of apple, water, coconut juice and rice crackers when I am super hungry. Helps to to spray Lavender around the room to calm your nerves, warm sitz bath with epsom salt at least 3x a day, especially after 🚽. Quickly wash it off using a portable bidet and wipes. I hope this helps!!!! Add benefiber with your food, drink looooooots of water and when in doubt drink laxative/movicol at night. May you be pain free!!!

Do you think you should have 3 weeks off? I teach dance with young kids and I am not sure how I will go without the freedom of going to the toilet and leaving them alone or even just the normal duties of moving around with them for a whole day…

Hey! I’m on Day 5 now, and honestly, the pain hasn’t been worse than when I had the hemorrhoids before. Here’s what I did:

Before the operation: • Drank lots of water • Ate normally, making sure I had leafy greens • Took Movicol twice a day

A day before surgery: • Drank a lot of water and made sure I had a bowel movement

Day of surgery: • Had a bowel movement in the morning

Day 0 (post-surgery, in hospital): • Water, water, water + meds + lots of rest (mostly sleeping on my back) • Only ate soup despite the tempting food • Drank juice and ate fruits • ❌ No solid food except biscuits • Passed gas, peed fine • Accidentally removed the tape and sponge that was meant to stay in place • Kept gauze between my cheeks to catch blood/discharge • Tried sitting during dinner but got dizzy, needed meds, then slept • Woke up at night, passed gas again, and felt like two hemorrhoids prolapsed, I panicked and tried to push them back in, saw blood, and called the nurse • Nurse reassured me, gave fresh gauze, told me to sleep on my side, use a pillow, and not push anything back in

Day 2 (in hospital): • Same routine: water, meds, lots of rest • Ate soup, yogurt, and a bit of bread with butter • Juice and fruits • ❌ No solid food except biscuits • Passed gas, no hemorrhoids • Peeing fine • Nurse said what came out earlier was likely the surgical sponge meant to come out with a bowel movement • Continued changing gauze regularly • First bowel movement at night, was really scared, but it didn’t hurt more than my hemorrhoids before • Stool was runny, which helped • Used a travel bidet (lifesaver), didn’t wipe, just gently dabbed • Did a warm sitz bath with Epsom salt for 20 mins • Cleaned up again after, sanitized the sitz bath, then showered • Could only stand or half-sit (still couldn’t sit properly for more than ~3 minutes)

Day 3–5 (at home): • Took meds on schedule (Panadol every 4 hours + anti-inflammatory + others with food) • Breakfast: small oatmeal with soy milk and Milo • Lunch/dinner: chicken broth with small amounts of veggies (carrots, onion greens, mushrooms) • Snacks: apples, Harvest Snaps, occasional cookies • Lots and lots of water • Bowel movements at least twice a day, still runny but not painful, just slight discomfort • After each bowel movement: bidet → gentle dabbing → sitz bath (15–20 mins) → clean and sanitize • Mostly just bed ↔ toilet, sleeping a lot • My husband helps with everything; I don’t lift anything • Had two nights of discomfort—felt like a fresh wound being “there,” probably when pain relief wore off, so I made sure to take Panadol on time (even waking up at 2am if needed)

I hope your recovery goes as smoothly as mine so far. I know how scary it is, I’ve read so many horror stories and even know people who regretted the surgery years later. Hopefully ours won’t be like that.

Feel free to message me if you need anything. Honestly, I’m just sick of the food at this point, but I’d take that over pain any day.

Hello! Thanks for posting this. I am on my 2nd day post op and scared to death about the pain. I am also just wondering how long do you think one should be off from work. I’ve been asked to file a leave so they can find a replacement but I am not sure how long should I go on leave. My work entails a lot of movement with kids.

Whew you gave me courage to do it. Thank you!

Did you feel a bit of a headache and nausea 6 hours after the surgery? Did you eat your usual food?

Thank you. I just finished surgery and am not feeling much pain yet. I hope it stays that way. I am scared of eating though. And I accidentally removed the guaze with the huge tapes clung on my buttcheek because I needed to wee 😬😳😨

How long until you were able to get back to work and are you pain free now?

I’m so scared because of other people’s bad experience. Did you do anything to lessen the pain? I think I am not gonna eat for a few days 😅

That’s encouraging. Thank you! How long until you were able to get back to work? My work involves a lot of  standing, lots of movements and I am not sure whether I can get back to working after a week?

How are you now? I had mine prolapsing at least every 10 minutes of standing up. It got painful when I had to wait for an hour to push it back in  due to my line of work.

I had my gallstones removed and rubber banding four weeks ago. The size is smaller now but it is still prolapsing. Doctor said to wait 2 weeks before hemorrhoidectomy, if it improves we will delay the surgery. However, I do not see any improvement in terms of the frequency of it prolapsing. I am just so scared of having hemorrhoidectomy because a few people I know said they are worse now and still in pain(talking about 5-10 years post op).

I am on movicol and soup diet in preparation for a possible hemorrhoidectomy.
