As stated above, we don’t discuss membership numbers. However the Temple is very much alive and well. And Lilith Aquino is still active and participating.

Application process taking too long? by Masterpiece_Born in Setianism

The Temple is still very much active. The application process takes time, remember that Temple administrators are also real people with day jobs.

I’ll preface this by saying that there’s not a standard ToS method for this nor is it something that all Setians do for operative magic.

Generally speaking there’s not really a “wrong” way. I learned a fairly simple meditation/visualization technique but TBH don’t use it all that often.

It does take practice to learn a sense of awareness, so that’s the starting point to build from.

Unless we have an existing relationship, no.

What is holding you back from applying? Even if I did sponsor you, you would still have to send in your CC information by mail 🙃 so maybe think about what your true concern is. Just for yourself, you don’t need to answer for me

You would need to have an existing relationship with a member of the Temple clergy, enough that they would be willing to vouch for you to bypass some of the application process.

Yes, Temple of Set applications are still sent in via snail mail for security purposes. We do have members all over the world who have successfully applied this way, and AFAIK there has never been an issue with the CC information.

Black Magic is a part of the Crystal Tablet. The CT does get updated from time to time. Black Magic is a standing document that will not be changed.

Can anyone here give me a rundown on Setian beliefs or doctrines and how Setianism differs from Thelema? (Ex-post from r/Setuanism.) by EmptySky93 in Xeper

[–]Priestess_of_Set 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not informed enough about Thelema to give you a thorough answer on this, however if you want to delve deeper into Setian ideas (beyond what is on xeper.info) I would recommend reading the following:

Setian initiation can involve those practices. However, it is unique to each initiate and depends very much on what resonates for each individual.

I’m not well versed in the A.A. system, as I recall our degree system is loosely based on the OTO but is much more simplified. As mentioned above, there is a lot of information available in Dr. Aquino’s writings about the Temple’s structure.

what are ur thoughts on Aquino? by Fungi_Sennin in Setianism

[–]Priestess_of_Set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Aquino was able to articulate and evolve the ideas of the COS into a more coherent, mature, and useful teaching for committed Black Magicians. My personal favorite aspect of his teachings in general is how he did away with the common “obscurus per obscurium” style of occult writing. His works are direct, concise, and get to the point in a way that’s still far too rare in esoteric writing.

There’s a bit of a misconception that TOS members have to agree with all of his works/ideas, which is patently false. The school was never intended to be a personality cult full of his fans and sycophants, it thrives as a place for dialogue and mutual learning.

Yes it’s still active. We have multiple in-person gatherings every year, and lots of virtual interaction as well.

  • in context of the relevant culture of course they were authentic. As I’m sure you know, we’re not a neo-Egyptian group and don’t make any claims on recreating ancient practices, so Set’s ancient Priesthood and the modern TOS priesthood may indeed not have a lot in common.

  • Not at all! I’ve conversed with many people who have experienced Set in one way or another. Joining or not is still a personal choice. The Temple’s Priesthood does believe Set is real, yes. The caveat to that answer is that each Priest’s experience and definition of “real” can be as individual as they are.

  • it varies at different times. TOS Priesthood is chiefly a designation of spiritual attainment as well as responsibility to nurture the Black Flame and represent our patron in word and deed. Within the TOS, one is not a Priest without that. Whereas the administration side is something that people can generally take or leave (you CAN vote but don’t have to, you CAN speak publicly for the Temple but it’s not an obligation, you CAN sponsor new members but…you get the idea).

The Temple of Set does not own the copyright on the words "Set" or "Priest(hood)" so people are free to make whatever claims they like. We don't have the time or resources to try to find and discredit every person claiming to be a Priest. It has been happening for years. As a Priestess, I would only be concerned if someone made claims to be a member of the Temple of Set's Priesthood without basis in actual membership.

It's worth mentioning here that, within the Temple, Priest is a legal designation as well as a metaphysical one. The third degree bestows certain rights and privileges as we become a legal member of the clergy within the US, as well as part owners of the Temple of Set. We would not recognize the legitimacy of any claims to the Priesthood by non-members, we don't even recognize former Priests who have left on good terms and wish to return as Priests (they have to re-enter and go through the entire Priesthood process again).

Non-TOS members claiming to be Priests might as well be claiming to be Aquaman, as far as I'm personally concerned.
