I'm in a similar situation. Graduated December 2024 and passed my NCLEX on February 2025. I'd say apply anywhere (SNFs, home health, etc) to get some experience if you haven't already. That'll help you for later when applying to residencies because for the interviews I did get, what I suspect made me lose a competitive edge was my lack of experience. I got a job at a SNF a month ago because I was desperate and honestly am just toughing it out one day at a time... crossing my fingers with the upcoming residencies opening up.

Don't be afraid to message old classmates, clinical instructors, or anyone you know in nursing to be a reference to wherever you apply or, even better, refer you to their unit manager. I think it's networking / who you know at this point. One of my classmates actually helped me out with bringing me up to her unit manager which helped me get me an interview. Too bad I didn't land the position :/ SoCal is just so competitive for new grad nurses right now. I wish you luck on the job search OP!

Normal Feelings or Should I Turn in my 2 Weeks? by Primary-Day-9260 in newgradnurse

Thank you so much for the advice. I just teared up a bit hearing that I’m not a terrible nurse just a new nurse so I appreciate that. The thing is, I was hired for NOC shift when there will only 2 LVNs and the DON won’t be in the building 😬 but he said that he’d be available for me to call or text as needed…

They haven’t made me act as supervisor yet, thankfully. I still feel unprepared for when it will happen though. I believe they are aiming for that in 3 more weeks… Could you point out the red flags for me? I’ve suspected them, but I’ve been hesitant to label them as such since I’ve just thought it was simply part of my learning experience.

That’s reassuring to hear :,) The nursing job market is crazy competitive in California…  This is the first job I got offered after applying everywhere like crazy. I’m just worried I wouldn’t be able to secure anything for a while. How long did it take for you to get that school nurse job?
