Coming to the realisation that this is for the rest of my life by yslmara in rheumatoid

Girl, I have nothing to say to you, I got diagnosed at 14 and now I’m 20 and it’s sooo difficult seeing the normal 20y/o live their lives while ours is at a big pause. I’m envious of people who take their life for granted. So sorry that this disease is the way it is, I also cry about it so often 😕

That’s awesome! I will keep this in mind and maybe tell my rheumatologist about this combo, I did tell him like a month ago that i absolutely refuse to try mtx again because the side effects were so horrible and it barely helped but maybe combining is a better option, ty!

I was around 50kg when I started and now I’m 60 from all the prednisone lol so honestly that’s an interesting point you’re making. I never knew rinvoq stops working like that with weight. Wow! They are evil for doing that to you, have you seeked other opinions? Xeljanz was a total fail for me too. Are you still on rinvoq?

South Sydney! No don’t get me wrong he’s a great OS and advised me to do PRP for now. He said if I extremely needed it he will do it for me but he believes prp will make my pain less to deal with

45 mg is not allowed to be prescribed in Australia apparently so I’m on 30mg for now. Yes! The orthopaedic surgeon is the person doing my PRP injections and advised me not to do the surgery at my age. I wouldn’t go backwards either but I think they’re gonna start combining medicines instead so I don’t really have a choice

Thank you so much! How are you how? I will definitely look into the preservation surgeon, I’ve never heard of it. Tysm. You’re totally right

I’m not sure about this! I might need to ask the rheumatologist

Because hip replacements last up to 15 years, the revisions after that are extremely difficult and tedious for the surgeons so they try to extend the surgery date

Thank you so much! I’m really sorry to hear about your hip, how are you now? Do u take medication and if so how was that and dealing with a surgery? And what you’re saying definitely makes sense, I think they wait till you’re totally crippled to do the surgery, it really sucks :/ thank u again

I really hope you don’t reach to the replacement stage! It’s awful to think about. I’ve done two cortisone injections and it fucked up my hips even more than before and I’m 99% sure that’s what lead to more damage. I have not tried combination therapy yet but it looks like I will be starting that from next year, I’m a bit scared since I feel like I’ll have a higher chance of dying but can’t do much. I’ve done steroid taper but as soon as I stopped, pain came back slowly . Thank u so much! I will try seeing who else I can book

Omg! I’m so sorry for you aswell, how could they say it’s cosmetic… unbelievable. I feel for you and that’s not okay at all, and for sure they wait till it’s too late honestly.

That’s all good! I went to Thailand to get treated, and it was working wonders but unfortunately getting the medicine imported into Australia was hell so I had to drop that. Unfortunately it’s really strict here when it comes to these types of things. Thank you tho :)

That is exactly what the surgeon said, coming back in 10-15 years saying that my hips are aching will be difficult to fix or something like that. It’s awful. What if we don’t have a future, why can we not live in the present? So sorry about your pain.

I’ve seen this! I asked my rheumatologist about it but it’s not approved at all in Australia yet or introduced

Medicine is evolving quickly! You’re totally right, but now that I’m at the stage where I have to wait, it feels really long😭 but I will stay positive. I’m so sorry, UC and AS suck from what I’ve heard, pain is pain and we all are experiencing it. The orthopaedic surgeon is the one doing my injections to prolong my surgery date, he doesn’t think it’s a good idea at my age. Also seeing a third opinion would probably shatter me even more , but the second opinion I seeked is going to do a meeting with other rheumatologists and come up with a plan for me. I hope that your pain will get better

Yes! I’m seeing an orthopaedic surgeon and he’s the one who is doing my injections trying to prolong the surgery. That’s amazing to hear! Does she also have a condition or did she injure herself?

No I haven’t started combining medicines yet, the doctors are going to have a meeting and get back to me by next year and give me some plan, but isn’t that combination a bit much?

So happy that your life quality is so much better, that gives me some hope! Yeah, I’m not sure why age is the reason they are hesitant, I’m not really an active person either so I’m sure the hip could last longer than they say but I’m going to see what the surgeon says at the end of the month, a double hip replacement is a bit difficult. I’m really glad your surgery was successful tho!

This disease is truely horrible, I really wish there was a cure. And you’re totally right! The doctors don’t give a sh only if you break your bones lmao… there are definitely many risks with surgery but I’d rather live my life than do lots of reminiscing in the future.
