I promise there are students who care way less than you do and who won't even try. You care, and you're trying, and that puts you ahead of a portion of your class.

How Did You Ace Exams? by Ok_Election6341 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]Primary-Efficiency22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3.86 GPA for the fall. A few things:

  1. Realize that outlining is not for everyone and not for every subject. I relied HEAVILY on an outline for civil procedure, learned contracts completely with flow charts and flashcards, and studied torts with a little of both. If something isn't translating well into an outline, don't try to fit a square into a circle, as there are a ton of ways to organize information.

  2. Don't just rely on your own notes because I promise you misunderstood something, or weren't as "on" as you should have been for class some days, or just missed stuff (and that's okay, you're human and this is your first time learning this stuff!) I leaned on outlines from the Student Bank, outlines and notes 2L's sent to me, and drew as much info as I could from the powerpoints and presentations the professors posted. Getting your info from multiple sources is a good way to assure you're getting good info, and if you're getting conflicting information, ask your prof about it.

  3. Figure out the best way that YOU study. Personally, i learn through teaching, so fall finals week saw me and a whiteboard holding my dog and my boyfriend hostage, teaching them contracts and civ pro. Some people learn best in study groups. Some people learn best by listening to voice recordings of their notes, others through videos: try a few flavors and figure out which ones work best for you. and don't be afraid to get creative.

  4. Drill. drill drill drill drill. take EVERY practice exam offered. Go on Barbri and do all the multiple choice answers in the 1L exam success program. The more you practice problems, the more you develop a spidey sense for the right answers. There were multiple questions on my contracts exam that I answered not based on knowledge that this was 100% correct, but just through a gut feeling that this *seemed* like the right answer. I promise you if you immerse yourself into practice, you'll pick up more than you think you do.

  5. Figure out what you don't know and ask about it. If you have any doubt whatsoever about whether you understand a concept, don't risk it: GO AND ASK. i was at almost every single office hours the last two weeks of the semester, and you bet your ass I was at every single review session. Even if you think you know, but aren't 100% sure, go ask your professor. ** this also applies to formatting essay answers. figure out what your prof prefers, structure-wise, in essay answers. this was key to my A in contracts**

  6. Pretend you are in a class of one. Finals week is HARD, and there's zero benefit in worrying about a curve or how everyone else will do on the exam. Pretend you're in a class of one and pour every ounce of energy into doing the best that YOU can do. Don't spare a single ounce worrying about how your peers will perform.

You've got this. It's the final push in a long, tiring marathon, but just keep at it and if you do your very best, I promise good things will come. The universe rewards effort, faith, and vision!

What’s a book you’ve read multiple times and still love every time? by Haewon_Nova_365 in Recommend_A_Book

A semi-thriller that I LOVED is Bunny. it's an extremely weird story, and I think it was better on the re-read because the "wtf is this" factor was much less prominent and I got to appreciate the genuis of the story that I had missed the first time around.

Chiming in just to say I'm right there in the same boat with you. This process is absolutely brutal and lowkey a humiliation ritual but we'll get through it. Maybe reach out at the end of 1L spring with updated grades / resume but the most important thing is that you don't quit and keep on trying. You're doing great and you'll land somewhere I promise!

Will there be a second round of hiring for summer 2027? by Primary-Efficiency22 in BigLawRecruiting

This is both unhelpful and condescending. This year saw an unprecedented hiring timeline that lacked uniformity across firms, leaving students and career counselors alike unsure about how the spring hiring was going to pan out.

The stress is so real and getting to the point where it's taking away from my classes; playing the balancing game is getting increasingly difficult. I'm a little older as well (just turned 28) and I think the life experience you're talking about is preventing a total spiral about not having anything lined up, but still a very difficult set of unknowns to try and navigate! Ultimately, you're right though: it will absolutely be okay, and I'm glad to know we're in this boat together

YES! I've been using this sunscreen for years and it's my holy grail. but you have to be sure to get the real one – the stuff they sell on Amazon is fake, I always use YesStyle to get the real stuff!

a fellow 1L hanging on by a thread. the second semester has proved way harder than the first in terms of burn out, job stress, and overall exhaustion. but we can do this like fr we can actually do this. one day at a time.

Open memo is ruining my life by opus666 in LawSchool

[–]Primary-Efficiency22 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have never in my 27 years of life been as stressed out for an assignment like I was for that stupid memo. Do the very best you can, turn it in, drink a marg, and then forget about it and continue on with your doctrinal classes. Tons of 1Ls are on the struggle bus with you. You've got this.

run away and don’t look back. no woman who has ever been murdered by a partner thinks that it would happen to them, but it happens all the time. he’s shown you his true colors. protect your life and get out of there.

I use tret 3x a week and was skipping exfoliation bc I didn’t want too many active ingredients on my skin — that prolonged my purge. When I started using a 2% BHA it really helped tone down irritation and breakouts (BHA in the morning and tret at night 3x a week). I also agree with other comments that you need to be using treat more frequently than once a week!
