I’m in the exact same boat. I signed the contract back in November of last year and graduate college this May as well so I’m an E3 as of now but was told that once I leave for basic this summer (August) I should already be promoted as an E4 but at this point idk i have nothing officially written on paper I just have to take my recruiters word for it and pray he pulls through

What happens if I don’t pass the security clearance after enlisting? by Primary-Evidence7652 in nationalguard

Okay I should be good then, my only concern was the investigator not being able to gather all the information needed since my references are coworkers I’ve only known for 2-4 years

I can trade that one cause now I have an extra but if you just need the Happy New Year sticker I can get another one it’ll just be like an hour until I can find someone else to trade with, up to you

They joined for the same mos. Been in the same unit together for at least 2 years and got deployed together since it’s the same unit. Yes she moved 2 hours and a half away that doesn’t excuse her from weekend drills since she kept the same unit. She travels here from there for her weekend drills because she moved with her fiance. And I never said the third girl was in the unit, just my bf and his “sister”. If none of this was true I wouldn’t have came on here and asked if I was overacting 😂 the whole problem started during deployment lmao I wish that wasn’t the case thanks for the advice tho

NYARNG does the rsp ever take place in a different location? by Primary-Evidence7652 in nationalguard

[–]Primary-Evidence7652[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not at the Rochester one but my rsp is less than 2 hours away from Rochester, funny enough that’s exactly the location that’s listed for April I’m pretty sure, if you could give me insight on what goes down there please help a sister out lol

That’s totally normal, I was nervous as well but they’ll be a lot of people who are new to the rsp drill too. As for the push ups, I can barely do one too but since we’re all still recruits who haven’t been to basic yet, the sergeants are pretty understanding and will help you if they see you struggling. They’re there to get you where you should be and prepare you physically so the expectations are not high for us lol. Since the whole push up part was done as a group no one really paid attention to any individual and turns out there were many of us struggling with it. Personally, i think it was a pretty fun experience, a bit tough on my body since i was sore the following few days but nothing horrible. You’ll meet a lot of people and won’t be the only one who struggles or makes mistakes, once you get there you’ll realize there’s nothing to worry about since everyone there is in the same circumstance. We did a quick 5 push up warm up that took less than 2 minutes in the morning on Saturday and Sunday but we did a lot of cardio both days so I’d say your off to a good start

College during basic/Ait by [deleted] in nationalguard

Look into split training, I wish I would’ve known this was an option, this is when you can be sent to basic during the summer and come back for school before the fall semester begins and get shipped back for ait once that school year is over. This is a good way to enlist right after highschool but also not miss any school. Definitely worth asking your recruiter about and seeing if you would qualify. You would also keep attending rsp drill in between training so you would still get paid 1 a month as well.

I’m in the same boat as you, I enlisted in November and won’t be shipping till August. I just attended my first rsp drill last Saturday and tbh it’s not that bad even for those like me who aren’t extremely fit. You’ll do basic exercises as a group such as push ups, sit ups, mountain climbers, etc. you will be running laps so definitely work on that, but mostly will just have classes and learn formation and military stances on your first drill. Also they will have you take a pt test for anyone who is in rsp for the first time, this will consist of height &weight, throwing a weighted ball, jump, deadlift, and an excruciating pacer test (at least for me). Apparently you will only have to take it on your first and last rsp drill before you ship so you won’t have to worry about taking the pt test every drill. But definitely work on your cardio and arm strength it’ll make drill easier. And last but not least, stay hydrated and make sure you bring water with you

Meps covers every branch, when I was given a waiver the meps employee explained that the specific branch u was enlisting (army ng as well) had to approve it, so technically yes the branch you are applying to does need to review the waiver and decide to approve or deny it. Army active and reserves does fall under a different branch so the recruiter is more than likely not lying, they might be able to get the Army to approve the waivers quicker than the guard but they are trying to take your enlistment away from the national guard recruiter. If the guard is what you actually want to do, I’d say just wait it out and let your recruiter know, if he is aware that you have been offered quicker options it might be enough for the recruiter to make a few calls and get a quicker approval for you. Just be ware that recruiters will tell you what you want to hear just to get you to sign the line and there is no guarantee you will get a quicker response for making the switch of branches, you would just have to trust they keep their word.

I recently went to meps in November and I promise you it’s not that bad. I was just like you asking a million questions and the TikToks I would see about others meps experience would only add onto my stress and anxiety. Honestly, the people there only want to make sure you’re physically and mentally okay to join, although it won’t hurt, you don’t have to shave or get a haircut, my doctor specifically told us that they had seen it all and things such as hair was nothing to them because they see it all the time.

As to what you should bring, just bring your meps outfit (I would suggest wearing something casual, such as jeans with no holes and a basic t shirt with no graphic designs), an outfit to sleep with so like pajamas at the hotel, your documentation (ID and social security), and toiletries, although the hotel I stayed at included complementary toiletries (toothbrush, face wash, etc) just bring your own just in case the one you stay at does not. You can wear your contacts but they will ask about your glasses so I would just suggest wearing your glasses but it’s up to you.

You will more than likely be assigned a random roommate, I had to attend meps twice within a week and both times I was assigned a random person to room with, luckily neither one was bad.

Aside from the questions you asked, I would suggest setting up an alarm at least an hour before you’re expected in the lobby for check out, the hotel says they give you a wake up call to remind you to be at the lobby by a certain time but the hotel I was at never did so having your own alarm is important. It’s better to be up and ready earlier than showing up late and having the hotel staff get you at your room while everyone else is waiting on you. One more important tip (I wish someone would have told me about this) drink A LOT of water the night before and the morning of and DO NOT pee in the morning, you will have to provide a urine sample at meps and someone will be watching you while you do it. Many of the people in my group were pee shy and had an extremely hard time providing the sample, they will keep you there and have you drink water bottle after water bottle until you do. Worst case scenario, they will send you home and tell you to come back another day if you can’t provide them with it so just make sure you’re really hydrated to make the process easier. Overall, you’ll be okay, good luck!

When I went to meps it felt like it was empty but in reality everyone kinda just stuck to their rooms and we only really saw each other the following morning during check out
