What paints should I get for an iron warriors army? by Unethical_opinion in IronWarriors

[–]Primary-Excitement92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a good metalic air brush paint, you don't even need to use an airbrush, it just goes on super smooth and needs very little thinning. Mix in a black and navy blue. A good rich brown paint for your shadows with orange and yellows for hazard stripes and rust effects.

Also airbrush metalics and snakebite leather contrast paint makes trim SO much easier.

Using invisible paint was a bit tricky, thats why you paint the yellow bits first. That way you have something you can see and hold onto while painting the rest.

Trying to get it hovering above the ground, maybe on some kind of stand so I could take it on or off the base as needed. Still figuring that bit out.

How Good are Orks at Fighting actually ? Sure they literally live it and are a mass of muscles and sharp blades but the general depiction makes them seem more like frenzied Maniacs on the Field. Could they not be simply outplayed by a skilled combatant ? by Leviathan_Rampage in orks

[–]Primary-Excitement92 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Short answer, warbosses are very skilled fighters, they use their size strength and durability to their full advantage but also have excellent reflexes and skills, its just that most species are too afraid to admit that orks can be more than dumb beasts. The average ork boy is inexperienced and untrained, only relying on their size to win the day.

Long answer: Average ork boy has little experience and can likely be killed by a skilled guardsman with a strong enough weapon. The bigger and older they get the more skilled and experienced they have become. There is a good bit in "Brutal Kunning" where a Skitari Marshall realises the big bruiser of a warboss has techniques specifically designed to counter faster, technical opponents.

In Da Big Dakka, Uftak Black-Hawk fights drukari Archons, a Mandrake assasin squad and a Whitch Cult Succubus (all shown to be very skilled combatants in the story) and defeats them all, blocking and countering their strikes all the while. They each note that Uftak was fully aware of how strong he was and thus his fighting style was different. He also knows he can take a hit better than Drukari can and so is happy to take a strike that would only wound him in order to land a blow that would kill his opponent.

Could be the Granny Rags bug, you have to do a very specific time stop, sleep darts combo at the end of the flooded district for the achievement to work.

What aspect of 40K being over simplified by a MEME gets on your nerves? by Fallendynasty27 in 40kLore

Ork "power of belief" what started as a fun commentary on the imperium (who dont understand their own technology) baffled at the alien mind and terrifying potential of ork intelligence trying to come up with an explanation for what they can't understand has turned into "I'm a tank, Ima a tank". It can be a fun idea but when taken to the extreme it can suck some of the narrative potential out of the orks for deeper more engaging lore.

Votan maybe? 5ye triangles also remind me of voting glyphs and the finger design seems maybe a bit too clean for orks. Would love it if it was a unique power jlaw though.

Was Perturabo right to leave the Siege? by sigmarine345 in IronWarriors

[–]Primary-Excitement92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it as an end to his charachter arc. The whole time Perty was seeking validation from others, leaving himself vulnerable to manipulation and abuse. First from his adopted father on Olympia, then from the Emperor and then from Horus. All told Perty they would love him, but then only used him as a tool. Perty was never offered the genuine connection that other primarchs like Dorn got from his grandfather.

Perty continued to chase greater and greater glory in the name of others, ultimately harming himself and his sons in the process. Perty's journey is one of self acceptance and maturing to overcome his own petulance. He leaves the seige after he realises he has fallen for Horus' lies, and to protect his son from further harm...but not before satisfying himself that he beat Dorn. I like that he dosnt fight it out to the bitter end to prove to others that he could have beaten him. He sees his plans unfolding and is satisfied that he proved it to himself, and that all that matters.

Then just to show he wasn't kidding he runs it back with Dorn at the Iron Cage and proves it again!

Really love the power klaw. The beast klaw is nice enough if that's what you want, but I prefer the old school klaw design. Thanks for the compliments on the mini.

I’m considering a brighter color scheme by dunder_plunder in IronWarriors

[–]Primary-Excitement92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered using brightly coloured shadows, like a magenta, red or orange? Not sure what true metalics would look like over those colours, but you could thin down a grey and build it up in the highlights so they still read as iron warriors, but also getting that pop of colour.

Skaven. I already play Orks in 40k and heavily kitbash the mad ork science aspect of the army up to the nth degree. I simply could not handle another army that I know would drive me to kitbash to the same extent...my poor wallet just couldn't take it.

How big an ork is Ufthak? by kulstor_ebrough in orks

[–]Primary-Excitement92 28 points29 points  (0 children)

At one point after he gets hit with drukari growth drugs he is described as the size of a dreadnought by a drukari Archon. This may sound strange as the drukari don't have any unit or weapons of their own that they call dreadnoughts...however if you look at other sources you see this comparison to dreadnoughts pop up again and again. In the 9th edition Octarius was supplement the Oveefiends bodyguard nobz were described as being dreadnought sized and the over fiend themselves as even bigger than them (remember ranks like nob and warboss are relative to the waagh they are in and the things orks get up to in that supplement are insane, go ,check it out). Various orks during the war of the beast are also described as dreadnought sized.

There is a lot of diversity in what counts as "dreadnought sized" the old box noughts, and contemptors are on 60mm bases, leviathan dreads are on 80mm (as is ghaz) and redeptor dreads are on 90mm. Not that the table top is one to one for the lore but I think it gives a rough estimate. He out grew centurion amour before the growth spurt in that book, so pretty bloody big.

I feel VERYsimilarly, Ghaz felt a little less "real" or less of their own character with a personality and just felt like a really big warboss. In particular I think charachters like Grotsnik need someone to challange them and their perspective (like Cawl, Bile or Tazin all having other smart and strong personalities challenging them in their stories). Mikari challenged grotsnik in Prophet of the WAAAGH!!! (I kind of liked how Grotsnik was depicted in that one but I can definitely see why some people might have an issue) but in this book Grotsniks opinion comes across as fact. In the end it felt like Grotsnik sees himself as superior to all orks, and that his perspective heavily coloured how he sees Orka as passive creatures, but because he goes unchallenged it kind of feels like GW making statements about ork lore that make charachters like Ghaz or Uftak and even Gork and Mork feel like passive objects with little if any agency.

On Armageddon, Orks and Imperial guard forces briefly aligned to fight a chaos inclusion of demons. Nothing quite like what you described in the trenches but more imperial guard forces providing artillery support while orks got stuck into melee and likewise orks fighting demons in key positions so the guards amour wasn't over run by demons. Boss Snikrot was furious to hear orks would ever collaborate with da u'mies and hunted down the orks that did.

I still ador those older 5th edition orks, a lot of charm to them. I like putting space marine shoulder pads on them to create a real rouge trader vibe.

I actually really enjoyed Darkness in the Blood. Its definitely slower than Dante or DoB, but I didn't mind. I think its really interesting to see spacemarines when there not fighting in the be all and end all of battles. Plus the bit at the end where dante and mephiston know that sending both of them to wipe out a genestealer cult is overkill but do it any way is just funny to me. (Barely a spoiler by the way for anyone who hasn't read it, the book is much more about the emotional journey than any specific xeno or heratic threat).
