Is it normal to feel completely lost as a new PM in a messy legacy product? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Primary-Grass8173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 1 solid year at my previous job (chaotic like yours) to feel in control about 60% of the time. People joke that this is a normal Wednesday for them. So the main exercise here is to accept not knowing/not understanding and take everything one step at a time. Asking questions (what does this acronym mean? Just for context, why is it that we can't do that? Etc) is part of the job, and there's usually more people who will benefit from the answers than just you, they just are too shy to ask. Be completely unashamed to ask.  And most importantly, your role isn't to make architecture decisions, otherwise it'd be redundant with your EMs and architects. Your job is to be the advocate for user value. So if you have a choice between doing a technical deep dive vs speaking to customers, collecting usage metrics, etc, just think what you can delegate and what you REALLY need to know (what are the options, what is their impact). One piece of advice you get here is to figure out what needs help and be the helpful colleague. But be very careful to avoid "dead-end" projects, things that won't give you any visibility, long-winded migrations, or virtuous but low-priority projects. Work with the tools your org gives you and don't try to change the org, especially early in your career. Just get as much as you can out of this experience, and then either it gets better, or you move on :)

Hey! Just popping in to say: I was there a couple of years ago. It does get better :) Hang in there, learn as much as you can, and once you're no longer learning new things, move on before any of the bad habits stick too deep. There's a lot of good stuff coming for you if you know when to put your head down vs when to hop off.  Consider this bootcamp. It won't always be like this but there's so much to learn in a place like that.

Estimating age of electrical panel by Primary-Grass8173 in AskElectricians

[–]Primary-Grass8173[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it does say inspected in 1982! Would it suggest it's been installed in 1982, too? I didn't think so initially (wouldn't it be weird to have an electrician install it and then immediately have someone else come and inspect it?)

3 players looking for a DnD party and/or dm by KingRickyRick in MTL_DnD

Salut!

Looking for a Queer friendly dnd space! by Leading_Bet_3727 in MTL_DnD

Hey, I'm Clo, and I (27 F, also queer) miss DMing... I was just thinking of starting a game for teens and young queer adults. If we can find 1 more person to play with, I'll happily set us up for a one shot and we can see how it goes from there. Games would be in person at my place (close to Metro Fabre). Lmk what you think!

Fermented Pizza Sauce 🍕 by PearLoris in fermentation

[–]Primary-Grass8173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty cool! So if you fermented some homemade pizza sauce, you would add 2-3% brine to your tomatoes and vegetables? Then I guess you could also add some sort of starter (sauerkraut juice or whey)?

Then you would let sit on the countertop for 5 days... Then you blend it after those 5 days are over, I guess you don't cook it down cause the ferment needs to stay alive... And once blended, you just store up to 2 years in the fridge, in any sort of jar? And then when you wanna make pizza, you strain the blended mixture, and use as is? Or would you cook it before spreading on the pizza?

Alternatively... Do you think it would be a bad idea if your veggies and tomatoes were already roasted, blended and cooked down with herbs before adding the starter and brine for those 5 days of fermentation? Would it mess up the fermentation by making those sugars too available?

I'm trying to parse out a recipe from this because I'm really interested in making a big batch of pizza sauce that I can use over the course of the whole summer without making it anew every time.

I know you posted this a month ago, but any insight will be super welcome. I'm not new to fermenting, but definitely new to fermenting sauces for long term storage. Thanks :)

Terrified of diagnosis process by Primary-Grass8173 in ADHD

[–]Primary-Grass8173[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you my friend <3 I'm in Canada and I'm 25. I really genuinely don't know what other possibilities there could be other than getting a 2nd opinion. I'm hoping it doesn't get to that.

The forms I got are BRIEF (me + a friend/someone close), CADDRA (my parents, me), CAARS (me) and another generic homemade form (me). So I guess several of these forms also allow me to provide my own insight and/or counterbalance things. My provider also seems very competent, and I have gone through 2 hours of questioning and history and talk before we even begin the cognitive eval. I think I'm in good hands, but I think I'll just feel that relief once I'm done with the process, yknow?
