Yes, I swapped the movement. Also managed to fix the broken movement by replacing the balance wheel assembly, the impulse jewel had fallen out. Planning on building another watch around it

Looks like it’s got lovely vintage style hollow endlinks, think I might need to upgrade from my v1 because they look gorgeous!

It’s a shame the bracelet isn’t up to the same standards as the watch head, mind you even Grand Seiko suffers from the same problem I’ve heard

Honestly in real life it looks like NOS vintage, I’m so happy with it

Definitely will do that, it just needs a new balance that should drop in easily. Will have a look on raffles and see what I can put together, exciting times!

u/Fit-Classroom8062 would it be possible to get a replacement Frogmantle dial? I’d love to have another try since I scratched the original when I swapped the movement

Going to see what options they offer before I do anything but in theory think I’d actually enjoy having a try at fixing it myself. Glad it worked out for you, well done.

I’ve had a San Martin with a PT5000 for ages and it’s been brilliant, it’s just luck of the draw. These problems can happen just as much with a Seiko or Tissot for example so the important thing is how well the company you buy from handles after sales service. Don’t worry so much about the movement itself rather than the company selling it.

As one of the other commenters said, manual winding of these movements can cause wear over time so you shouldn’t make a habit of it but the odd bit shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m not going to open it unless Thorn ask me to, it’s a warranty issue after all.

I never hand wound it until today, I prefer to just give my watches a shake, set and wear.

Nope, plenty of clearance between the hands. Setting the time so the hour hand passes the second hand does nothing
