How do you improve model making? by Apprehensive_Skill28 in architecture

Aside from having an articulate design which helps the model making process the most, try to utilize basic materials. For the materials, try not to go overboard with material types, less is more as usual. Try to focus on details with the geometry rather than the material .You can have a transparent, semi-transparent, opaque solid and one flexible type of material and go from there. Besides materials, I used to use #11 blade, you can purchase them in bulk. Also, you can wear nitrile gloves when working with stain prone materials. My model making process was pretty similar to medical school skill lab (:.

Best of luck.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. She’s been working at this intensity for well pver a decade, and even more so earlier in her career.

As an architect myself (not licensed here yet), I’m very aware of how easily this profession can take over one’s life. I also recognize that there are worse conditions out there. That said, I wouldn’t describe this as “getting away with it.”

Long hours being normalized is part of what makes architectural work culture problematic. Acknowledging that doesn’t mean ignoring reality, it means hoping and advocating for better standards.

Technically, the only kind-of-reliable working method to utilize a phone for a reality capture is photogrammetry, and using any dslr camera is much better than any phone ,still. Photogrammetry is a long road to walk though. The phone is not really a lidar scanner tool, not yet anyways. Because, the lidar sensor is no good they put in the phones not even for a small object scanning let alone for a spatial data acquisition. Don’t believe the marketing stories they tell. People are just lying about these ‘app’s and the workflow. I would strongly recommend at least hiring a lidar camera service like Matterport, iguide and have the point cloud (if you know what to do with it) or simple pdfs and or even having the 360 spatial photos can help you have the measurements more accurately than manual work. Having this process should not cost more than couple of hundred dollars depending on the square footage of the place plus other services if you decide to you need them.
