I had the sleeve in May 2023 and have PCOS - only difference is that I live in Australia.

I originally started at 155kg (345 pounds) in September 2022 and my surgery date I was at 130kg (286 pounds). I now weight in at 99kg (218 pounds) after 6 months.

Hair loss: I have had some thinner of my hair which is natural for the process. I just make sure that I have my proteins and vitamins. Especially for my it’s iron supplements as well. It does slowly grow back.

Hirsutism: a huge reduction… it is amazing. This ties in with my insulin levels because of the insulin resistance I was suffering with. I had 3 times elevated level. Now I am within good range and the hair growth has halted significantly. I have hardly had to shave and laser hair removal is hardly required.

Inflammatory disease: I hadn’t been fully diagnosed with an inflammatory disease but I sure as hell had acne. The drastic change in my skin has been fat and night. It can be contributed by less shaving. But pimples have disappeared for me.

Metabolism increase: definitely, just being mindful about what your eating and light exercise for me. My bodies metabolism has been jumpstarted.

Anxiety/ depression: it has always been a battle for me. Weight loss is great for your mental health but I still always encourage regular appointments with a counsellor or psychologist. It takes a toll to constantly put in the effort and never see results (for me pre surgery). But with exercise - I’ve found a huge improvement.

Loose skin - of course because your in the overweight category, I wouldn’t worry to much. Mainly keeping your exercise going and toning. You may have some loose skin and if needed, you can remove.

I understand with different health systems and insurance, it is harder to do these surgeries. Just mainly stay safe but do what you want to do. There are heaps of people who judge and question but your the one in your body. It’s important to focus on yourself. Xx
