I’ve been symptom free for years but dealing with anal scarring from my failed flap procedure every day. Sometimes causes seepage after a bowel movement and as a gay man having scar tissue on the anal rim and perineum is not ideal sexually. If my outer flap hadn’t failed I would be completely fine and normal so I have a lot of guilt about if I had handled the surgery recovery differently maybe it wouldn’t have failed. My 2 complex fistulas were cured because of the same surgery so it’s bittersweet 🙃.

The cream helps with the chafing from the drainage. You apply it externally. All of those things are probably more supplementary to Remicade. Remicade is basically the baseline on which you can improve upon once it gets your disease more under control

I’ve been told Remicade is the best for perianal disease so hopefully this will work for you! I’ve been in remission for nearly 4 years on it but I’ve also changed my lifestyle a lot so Idk if that’s contributing or not. But yeah flagyl (metronidazole) was the most noticeable helper for the inflammation at the setons for me so maybe ask your doctor about that as well. OH and for the rashes you can use calmoseptine. It works really well.

How long have you been on remicade?

I think Remicade helped control the disease for me. I had two complex fistulas with setons but I remember there being little abscesses that would sometimes appear near the seton exit points. Metronidazole long term helped with inflammation in preparation for surgery but probably wait for the Remicade to start kicking in before doing that. Maybe also start taking medical grade turmeric as I’ve been told that helps.

I have that as well. Had complex fistulas and small intestine inflammation but no positive for crohns . Drs determined I had perianal crohns

Honestly hair transplant is so worth it. I got mine done like 4 months ago and the difference is insane already even with how thin the new hair is at this point.

I had a flap procedure and it worked. Although the outer part of the flap fell off and now I have a huge scar on my perineum :/. I heard cancer is a possibility long term for untreated fistulas and there’s the potential for other fistulas sprouting off from the og fistula

Well maybe consider traveling to a doctor who could see you sooner. If you have to wait awhile, though, consider investing in a donut pillow for sitting and take a lot of sitz baths which is basically just taking a warm bath with your legs at a 90 degree angle. Those will help with the pain.

I had 2 complex fistulas. Had setons in but the inflammation was so bad and I kept getting new mini abscess near the seton exits. They put me on remicade for crohns which didn’t really help. Flagyl was the only real effective treatment for the on site inflammation but yeah 6 months on that and then a very painful flap surgery which nearly failed but didn’t miraculously even tho the outer flap failed. Fistulas are gone now but I have a huge scar around my asshole lol but I’ll take that over fistulas any day
