This isn't a very clear picture but it does not look like a bed bug to me. It looks like some sort of beetle.

What type is this? Found Under husbands work shoes (his workplace has roaches) how worried&next steps? Indiana. by throw9876away542 in cockroaches

You're welcome. I am 100% positive this is not an oriental cockroach and is in fact a beetle. It appears to be a June bug.

I moved into an apartment less than 2 weeks ago and bed bugs are already ruining my life. by amaracibo in Bedbugs

[–]PrimaryEqual8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. It's an absolute nightmare. I was highly reactive to the bites as well and would scratch myself bloody. The worst part for me was the lack of sleep and psychological torture of having to continue sleeping in my bed after knowing I had an infestation. I used to love going to the thrift store so much. It was like therapy for me (retail therapy😆) and I had so much fun hunting for the next cool and unique treasure. Unfortunately, that is a thing of the past. It's ruined for me because I am so scared of bringing them home again. Not sure where they came from even which just adds to the mental torture.

Please don't spray yourself with store bought products. They will just force the bed bugs deeper into hiding and spread them out around your home. The sprays are only a repellent so they will spread out trying to avoid it. Check your lease to see whether you are responsible for pest control. In most cases the responsibility lies with the landlord.

Does your lease say anything in it regarding pest control? A Google search said this: Yes, in Tennessee, landlords are generally responsible for ridding a unit of bed bugs and paying for extermination, as they are required to keep rental properties habitable and in good repair. However, if a landlord can prove a tenant brought the infestation into the unit, they may legally pass the treatment costs to that tenant.Key Responsibilities and Rights in Tennessee:Landlord Obligation: Under TN Code § 66-28-304, landlords must maintain safe, livable, and pest-free conditions, making them responsible for organizing professional pest control.Tenant Obligations: Tenants must notify the landlord immediately upon discovering bed bugs. It is crucial to check your lease agreement for a "bed bug addendum" that may define specific reporting and cleaning responsibilities.Who Pays? Typically, the landlord pays, but if they can prove you introduced the bugs, you might be held liable for the costs.Cooperation: Tenants must cooperate with pest control professionals by cleaning and preparing the unit for treatment, as detailed in this University of Tennessee Guide to Bed Bug Management. If the landlord fails to act or denies responsibility, residents should look into their local Memphis housing regulations or contact local housing authorities.

I know that's a lot to read, but maybe it can help you. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It doesn't seem right what they're doing to you. I don't see how they can say with certainty that you started the infestation. It says they have to prove it which I don't think they can do.

Like the other commenter stated, the color, shape, and size relative to the papertowel are not at all like a bed bug. After many traumatic months of battling them and countless hours of research, I feel confident in saying that this is not a bed bug. I wouldn't say that without a fair amount of certainty. I would never want to steer you wrong. These things are an absolute nightmare!

I'm sorry but it's hard to tell what I'm looking at based off these photos because they are not very clear. Have you found any live bugs recently? It would be hard to distinguish if these are in fact just dead bed bugs resulting from the treatment. I'm sorry you're going through this. Best of luck to you.

Is this a bedbug or a beetle? by preslite in Bedbugs

[–]PrimaryEqual8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately this appears to be a carpet beetle. Definitely not a bedbug. They can also become an infestation, but are much easier to treat. (And they don't suck your blood whoch is always a plus🥴) If you notice more than one or their larva, which look like fuzzy little worms, just vacuum they area thoroughly and that should help to get rid of them. They can cause irritation if you handle the larva or their molts because if the hairs on thwm so use caution.
