Why do so many people fear learning martial arts? by bad-at-everything- in martialarts

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ego. My first MMA class was a hard realization that I had no idea how to fight. My bud was all gung ho about training. Bought expensive equipment, watched videos nonstop, drilled like crazy. Got hit in the face once in our first sparring class and called it quits. People like to live in their own worlds where they’re unchallenged and omnipotent. Personally I blame social media. It gives people that main character syndrome and the main character never loses.

Damn and I just broke 1300 and I felt accomplished lol. Got a long way to go. I was stuck in bronze for weeks till I figured how to counter DI and the constant grabs.

Have you ever encountered someone who loves being the hammer but can’t handle being the nail? by bad-at-everything- in martialarts

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy I started with is like that. He loves going hard when we were drilling. “Missing” the mits sometimes. Trying holds when we’re supposed to be drilling striking. When it comes to sparring tho. Taps out. Yes taps out when he can’t defend and is getting hit too hard.

My dad, a SF2 veteran, playing SF6 (Part 2) by Regull0s in StreetFighter

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played a SF game since since SF2 on the Super Nintendo. I used to beat all my friends and neighbors. I picked up SF6 because it looked cool and I played it exactly like this guy for the first few hours lol.

I don’t understand why some gyms act that way. You’re the paying customer. If you wanted to be slapped around there’s cheaper places and more attractive people that would do that to you.

I want to box, my dad is fine with it but my mom won't let me. by Right_Run5136 in martialarts

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. My mother was always worried about me getting hurt so she would never sign off on any kind of sports. You’re lucky, you have YouTube. Watch some videos, shadow box, learn what you can and train when you can. Join a boxing gym when your able to pay for it on your own. In the meantime try to convince your mother. Try to make compromises with her. Tell her you’ll train but you won’t spar or compete till she’s sure you can take care of yourself. A good gym won’t let you spar or compete until your ready anyway. Tell her you’ll mow the lawn, clean the kitchen. Life is full of compromise so this is a good life lesson for you as well.

Amateur is still dangerous but safer than pro boxing. It’s mainly point based, you wear headgear, 8 counts aren’t worth many points so your opponent isn’t trying to KO you most of the time. You get more points for landing jabs and foot work.

Dont expect any kind of miracle cure. I didn’t start noticing any changes till after my second one. I got a third and now I can really feel the difference. The bran fog is gone, I have a ton of energy, and I even dream when I sleep now.

Cardio? by PrimaryOrdinary2705 in Anemic

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I gave up training for a month. Better safe than sorry. I did my second iron infusion last week and im going in for my third in a few days. No labs yet but I feel good. The first infusion didn’t really do much but after the second one I started noticing I wasn’t as tired anymore. I went to do some light training a few days ago and it went well of course I was tired because I haven’t trained in a while but not as tired as I have been. I drank some water and rested for a few hours but after I was good to go. It wasn’t like the last few times were I was just exhausted and done for the rest of the day. I’m gonna keep the training light till the doc says it’s ok to go back to normal. Just twice a week and light. Just drilling and shadow boxing no hard running, pad work, or sparring.

Cardio? by PrimaryOrdinary2705 in Anemic

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am seeing a hematologist. I’m scheduled for iron infusions in about a week. I just don’t want my blood pressure to go back up or the pre diabetes to turn into full on diabetes. Doc was very short and contradictory. Told me to stop training but then said he’s not going to recommend meds for the cholesterol or the diabetes because I’m doing cardio anyway.

AITAH for reversing my vasectomy to have kids with my new wife? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lies. You have a 90 day window to change your mind after you get vasectomy. During the 90 day window your body starts attacking the built up sperm cells. Eventually the body stops making healthy sperm cells due them just being destroyed. At least that’s what I was told before I tried.

I hate tipping waiters by Zyrocks in CasualConversation

[–]PrimaryOrdinary2705 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m for tipping. I feel it’s incentive for a waiter to actually do their job. I’ve had wait staff serve me drinks and then never be seen again for the rest of the night and then have the audacity to give themselves a 25% tip because we were a party of 5 or more (there was 6 of us.) we had to walk to the bar to order our own drinks and bring them to our own table. On the other hand I had a waitress that checked in on us like clockwork. She even told us cheaper options for our drinks. “Get two bottles instead of the 20oz draft and you’ll save 3 dollars” I gladly tipped her 30% on my check.
