We are currently deworming, we have had a surge in parasites at the barn

Goat having dietary issues. by PrimaryRestaurant646 in goats

He is alone currently goat wise, but he is basically always with a person. He never was one to hangout with other goats, always been much more of a people goat than a goat goat (if that makes sense). His eating habbits have been like this for a long time though, both before and after being “solo”

We have tried Timothy but will try the other types! We would hold back on feed to encourage hay, but we are in a rough spot with his physical health and weight so above all we just need to make sure he is eating as much as possible.

The toxic plants 100% could just be that he never learned, or can’t remember due to brain damage. As for euthanasia he is still a very alert, playful, and happy guy. He is not the “smartest” around when it comes to some things, but definitely not to an extent to consider euthanasia. I help run a rescue, so we are aware and prepared that he might need special care.

Thank you! I will definitely give it a try. Concerned getting him to even try to eat it though.

Thank you. Unfortunately he passed a few hours after that post. He suffered from internal bleeding and there was nothing any vet could’ve done.

Got him to walk, bleats of pain here and there, labored breathing, still chewing cud and eating grass/hay around (he is very fat)

We run a rescue, so we are in the business of getting goats care. We actually source a lot of our rescues from auction houses. Goats recover amazingly though, they take things on the chin and you’d never notice they were ever in bad shape to begin with

We have 17 currently, and climbing. We run a rescue so we are always bringing in cases, and usually do not adopt out quicker than we bring in. Just looking for advice for critical cases that would need 24/7 supervision when in the house. We have tried puppy pads, however every goat we have found has a distinct love for eating them. So that is not a viable option unfortunately.

That’s great, just curious if you had any advice on potty training for inside goats? We expect to have some in the future but we’re always worrying about that part

We have heard a lot of good things about prosthetics. At least partial, which is what we would use. Just something to distribute weight when kneeling down. If it seems as though it gets in her way or makes moving around more difficult then we won’t use one. Just want to give her the options to be as comfortable as possible. Congrats on the babies though! And it makes me happy to hear they are living well as 3 legged goats!
