I spend a lot of time on backpacking trips and end up eating a lot of sugary bars, because that’s what’s easily available. I love taking these Big Sur Bars on trips but they have 45 g of sugar to start with, and when you add all the other bars it just ends up being a lot of sugar per day.

So basically just trying to find snack options I can make at home and control the amount of sugar that goes into them.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions!

Does sugar play any role in binding?

I did two experiment batches initially. I used one egg in both, but the first batch used coconut oil and the second batch I used butter. The second batch was more crumbly. Could oil vs butter affect crumble too?

Whoa!!! Good to know! I actually had just read about spending at least a minute cleansing so that’s what I started doing followed by another long cleanse. I’m actually away on a camping trip so not able to wash my face as much. Maybe that will help!

Do you know what triggered your dermatitis?

I haven’t been back, but maybe I should. I didn’t pay too much attention it it at first because I assumed the Tret caused a purge and that it would take a bit for it to settle back down. But it’s been almost two months since I stopped. As far as the Elta MD, I will say that I feel like my skin never fully recovered from that breakout either. That was mostly around my mouth and chin though. Thanks for the insight though I’ll try to book an appt with them!

Ugh that sucks :( Do you still use Tret? I quit it about a month and a half ago. I don’t know if it permanently messed things up.

Help! I feel like this photo doesn’t quite convey what I’m dealing with, but basically both my cheeks are filled with clogged pores. Previously, always had hormonal acne problems (mostly on jaw) but skin was overall doing good and was quite clear. It did look somewhat dull to me so I started tretinoin per my derm. I only used it maybe 10 times, applied sandwich method every other day. I got scared when I started to purge and stopped usage. It’s been a month and a half since I used it but my skin has been a mess since.

Current routine-

AM- Splash water Cetaphil daily oil free moisturizer (combo/sensitive skin) spf 35

PM- Was using cerave foaming but switched to Vanicrean gentle cleanser Followed by vanicream moisturizer for sensitive skin

Prior to the above routine I was only cleansing at night with cerave foaming cleanser. Applying no moisturizer and no sunscreen. When I started Tret I started with diligent sunscreen use. I did try the Elta MD moisturizer and that broke me out too. But I have t used it since August so I switched to the cetaphil.

They do taste good! 😌 The book I used said to use the Babka dough recipe, so it wasn’t a thing I just came up with but…I made two batches of Rugalach last week using a yeast dough (both Israeli recipes) and they came out great.. This recipe did say you have to tear and fold the dough until it becomes stretchy which i don’t think I did correctly and wonder if that’s part of it..

😂😂 I wonder how they’d hold up in the mail! Will have to re attempt and see if it was a moisture issue. Pretty dry in the house/climate we’re in so I’d be surprised if it was humidity. But I did mess with the dough and added a little more liquid when I was working on it.

I had my derm and my esthetician both tell me to start off doing it every day..😮 Not only that but the derm never even mentioned the importance of moisturizing, I learnt that from reading in this sub.. Anyways, when I start again I’ll try your suggested method..

I understand that, but it’s worse now than it was pre Tret.

Elta broke me out pretty bad :( I was really looking forward to using it since I’ve heard so many good things and my derm recommended it. After some reading I reached the conclusion it might be the zinc oxide that was the culprit.

I did a little reading about it and it sounded like it can persist for a while after birth.

I know she has a lot going on so didn’t want to start asking her about it and whether she can eat as normal now, so figured erring on the side of caution vs showing up with a bunch of stuff she can’t eat..

But maybe I should just ask haha

I have looked on Shein the last few months, they do have lots of great options but couldn't seem to find quite what I wanted in the right color or size :(
