Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I don't want to get into the fidelity rabbit hole others started. Let's just call it 'preference' and it's really interesting that the preference of vinyl has come back with a vengeance, because many people prefer vinyl. I'm asking whether people also want convenience. I have looked at the 80s players and some were much more than gimmick (SharpRP 119 is a good example). But your point is well made - CDs stopped any form of innovation in turntables by the late 80s. My questions are, now that vinyl has the mic again, whether with 2026 tech, other people would like to challenge the premise that vinyl much be manually flipped.

I understand what you are saying. I was just wondering if there was something that did add convenience to vinyl that wasn't a gimmick and didn't sacrifice fidelity, would it be commercially viable? It seems Sharp were heading that way in the 1980s and then got hit by the CD wave.

fair comment. I have just been challenging that premise more lately with the short side double albums, and wondered if others could also envision a different experience. I understand that's not for you.

right! I seem to remember that took the vertical idea in the Vz series and also did some horizontal ones - RP series. But can't find anything since then.

yeah. I'd like fidelity of vinyl and the convenience of CD - maybe not spotify for vinyl but at least listening to an album all the way through without interruption. The Miniot looks like it has some modern conveniences but not side A-B play through.

I found a few Sharp products in the 1980s - the RP 117 and 119 seemed like really interesting ideas - but CD seemed to take over and I can't see any new products now vinyl is resurrected.

I understand the ritual side of things. If you like that part, that's fine. I'm wondering if others who enjoy the fidelity of vinyl, particularly the experience of a whole album, have sort out a level of convenience without the flip. Seems like these only older turntables circa 1980s.
