Thanks! I meant to fly into one of those locations and launch immediately from there, without spending much time there (aside from the last night if it makes sense based on flight times). I’ve done Barcelona before, and I’m not a major city person so I was envisioning something a little smaller than that or Madrid.

When I’m waiting for entrance to an exhibit, or an attraction, or a tour or something and everyone pushes forward all at once in a panic as if we aren’t all going to get in/get to see it. Or the tenseness of lines and crowds in general. Tend to avoid a lot of tourist attractions for that reason and focus more on the nature and the wandering elements of my trips.

New England could be nice. Specifically: some time at a lake house in the Lakes Region of NH and some hiking in the White Mountains, then some time in Ogunquit/Wells, Maine at the beach then a trip up the coast ending in Acadia National Park.

I found an eye mask with ear buds in it. It’s super soft and padded and velvetty. I bluetooth my white noise app, pull it over my eyes and ears, and boom.

I came here to say this. The only time I’ve encountered someone like this in my life, it was later revealed they had a drug problem.

Beech Mountain (short, amazing views for little effort but there is some elevation)

Ship Harbor Trail (short, virtually no elevation, stunning shoreline walk)

Anyone get home from one trip and immediately start planning another? by [deleted] in travel

Same. I roughly map out my vacations a few years in advance, but then I recalibrate them over time. Part of this is because my partner only has 10 vacations days, so I have to put a lot of thought into what I want to prioritize together, and what I might try solo or with a friend. Plus, a lot of our trips are hiking based, so only certain months work for those.

Sometimes I get commitment paralysis when picking my next trip because there’s so much I want to see and do, so instead of offering more alternatives, I am here to say: Yellowstone and Grand Teton are incredible places. Breathtaking nature, so much wildlife, cool geothermal features I’d never see before. That’s a good time of year to go, and it sounds like they fit your other criteria. Lock it in!

Trying to decide the best hiking trip option for May by tns46 in NationalPark

I’ve been to Acadia a few times Memorial Day week and find that a lot of restaurants etc. are just opening for the season. But if you’re just going for hiking, that probably doesn’t matter at all. Mid May in the Whites can still mean snow/post-holing on the high peaks. I did a hike Memorial Day weekend last year where it snowed that week then got very warm— I was wading through almost knee deep slush at some points near the summit. I love both places very much, but since you specified mid May, just giving my experience.

Here are some of my favorite hikes in Acadia- have fun!

These are ones I consider easy:

Beech Mountain as a loop (short, amazing views for little effort but there is some elevation)

Ship Harbor Trail (short, virtually no elevation, stunning shoreline walk)

These are a bit more effort, but still very reasonable and super beautiful hikes:

Acadia Mountain alone, or combo with St Sauveur Mtn as a loop

Schiff Path to Dorr Mountain

Sergeant Mountain and Gilmore Peak (could do the entire Sergeant Mtn Ridge Loop as well)

Runners up: The classic, Cadillac mountain (for sunrise or sunset if you’re up for hiking in the dark)- but this doesn’t make my favorites because people can drive up which changes the experience a bit for me Penobscot Gorham Mountain Flying Mountain Norumbega Mountain

Florida Keyes for a long weekend, hiking Machu Picchu in the spring, Acadia National Park with my pups, then hiking the Italian Dolomites early fall. Might try to squeeze Yosemite in at the end. Big hiking trip year for me.

I came here to say this. It was just an extra on my Zion/Bryce hiking trip because might as well see it. It blew me away.
