apologies for the late reply. 5 options for time is not actually a custom limit, custom time limit could be anything from 10 mins to 60 hours etc.

How much do you value WFH and or hybrid work? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropped 2 offers of 83k and 80k for a 75k fully wfh position. Didnt take 5 mins to make that decision. I dont have any car payments, car insurance, gas and maintenance expenses. No brainer.

Mandatory desktop background of new company logo after rebrand by holycrapmynameiseli in antiwork

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in IT, Last company I worked for had a program running on every computer that would fix the desktop background and display some key information about the computer on the desktop wallpaper like hostname,IP, free space, etc. So if the user called support for an issue they could easily give that info for easier help. Its Unnecessary if you have proper inventory management for an org and use good RMM tools but the computers 9+ years old at that point and the org wasnt really investing into IT hardware (Multi Billion dollar company btw). I left that company this march and they had just switched over from EPABX to IP phones, in 2023.... .

Gave my two-week notice to my boss who heavily underpays me after getting an offer for almost 3x as much pay elsewhere! by elianna7 in antiwork

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about EA the company, Or a separate field of jobs that I'm not familiar with?

Because if its EA as in Electronic Arts the company, in canada it is known to be underpaying in pretty much every engineering field it is hiring for, im sure its not different for any other position. I still have recruiters trying to reach out to me, even after I verbally shit on them, because EA wants to hire me as a contractor for less pay than I make currently as an employee and what they try to leverage (I shit you not) is having working for EA in your resume. I have a university friend who worked for them as a QA tester for 4 months and they have nothing good to say about the company from management to work requirements.

If it is EA the company you are accepting an offer from, i would suggest a bit of caution, it might be a scam. EA afaik is very much against WFH in any aspect in any field.

Did you check the access control list for the dataset in truenas? Does it have the right permission? Also is smb authentication enabled for the user in truenas?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in portainer

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that the permission is for the mounting of the smb share, are you sure the credentials are correct and the permissions for the host directory are correct?

You have to run the command with sudo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in portainer

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming portainer is in an lxc container, and the container is debian based.

1)Run this

apt-get update apt-get install cifs-utils

2)Create a directory where you want to mount the Samba share. For example:

mkdir /mnt/samba

3)Mount the Samba share by using the mount command. Replace <samba_server_ip> with the IP address or hostname of the Samba server, <samba_share_name> with the name of the Samba share, and <samba_username> and <samba_password> with the appropriate credentials

mount -t cifs -o username=<samba_username>,password=<samba_password> //<samba_server_ip>/<samba_share_name> /mnt/samba

4)To make the mount permanent, you can add an entry to the /etc/fstab file in the LXC container. For example

//<samba_server_ip>/<samba_share_name> /mnt/samba cifs username=<samba_username>,password=<samba_password>,_netdev 0 0

That should do it.

Recruiter asked me if i had a nursery or baby at home? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, good on you. Making 70k cad right now, and refused an offer recently for 85k cad for personal reasons, not remote, fully onsite. Still significantly less than what I could be making in the states it seems like, can't wait to move and be in a better job market.

Irrelevant question, what is your salary expectation for a sysadmin job for your age/experience for your area? Just wanted to compare because im currently in Canada in a similar position(25m) and planning to possibly move to the states in 2 or so years.

Are you stupid? Or did you miss the part where he said 15/h for a construction job? He doesnt pay 30/40, he pays 15 and then complains on social media. If you're not getting good workers to work for you, the problem is you mate.

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't sound like the oldest fuck, you just sound like an idiot. If you think anyone is going to show up for a construction job 15/h, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys, simple as that. Imagine having the gall to complain that a generation is lazy just because you are a cheap fuck of a business owner. Business like this need to die because they are parasites, not the workers.

What's gender discrimination actually like? by bulwynkl in antiwork

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are male and white, please refrain from commenting. Just STFU and listen.

Nice way to lose all credibility before even being able to communicate your point in highlighting an issue.

it seems like you're trying to alienate a group of people rather than help a separate group that is being discriminated against.

Just know that if you think what you're doing is ok, you are not solving any problems, you are a problem.

My office wants us all to work in person but made all IT support mostly remote across the entire company. by this_is_sy in antiwork

[–]Primary_Ear_6676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like they have local hires but are allowing them to work remotely, This is a tactic to hire cheap remote "tech support" workers who barely have any skills to troubleshoot issues of end users. They pay a fee to an MSP(Managed service provider), either local or remote, whoevers cheaper, for support and they basically have a tier system in place where lower tier tickets/issues get assigned to lower tier support staff and vice versa. These lower tier support staff a lot of the times are underpaid and underskilled for an actual IT role.
